Said it elsewhere: Marty isn't a "plan for the future" guy. He's a year-to-year guy. And while others have said you're never one or two players away, Marty firmly believes that we are on a fairly regular basis.

Ron micromanages the offense. I think Norv is a solid OC (not that last night was any indicator of that). But there are offensive tendencies that have been very obvious since Ron got here, through three OCs now. Last night there was a 2nd and 1 right after a Bucs penalty that have us 5 yards. When I saw the 2nd and 1 I had the same thought I’ve had in every such situation for the past 8 years. “Now is when competent OCs take a shot”.  And of course, just like every time in the past it was a run up the middle for 2 yards.  I used to blame those situations on Chud and Shula.  But now we have a third OC and the same old poo.  This, among other tendencies, tells me Ron meddles in the offense and that’s a huge part of coaching for one score games and overall conservative, scared coaching that should have gotten him fired 5 or 6 years ago.

Last year the stock of Hurney and Rivera was plummeting. A seven game losing streak followed by a meaningless preseason-like victory. The Carolina Panthers franchise was plummeting, the playoff window was clearly closed, yet Tepper decided to hang on to that stock for another season. Clearly it was time to sell, but he held tight. Bad move.

What we are seeing now are the fruits of that ill fated decision. A team that should have a fresh and new approach to the game under exciting new leadership is stuck for an entire season with the same tired excuses we have seen for years.

Talk about a missed opportunity.

It is too late for a new and exciting GM and head coach to be brought in, but coaching changes should still be made. It would be a shame for the Carolina Panthers to spend so much Christian McCaffrey mileage on a meaningless season. An interim coach might be less willing to have an offense hinged completely on a bright young star that the next coaching regime will very much need. Perhaps an interim coach would give opportunities to other young players on the team, like Jordan Scarlett, to prepare them for the seasons to come.

An interim coaching staff may also be a quick injection of interest into the fan base. At the very least Carolina Panthers fans would see accountability and hope for change next season. Perhaps this would be enough for them to go to a game and even buy a beer or two.

Let's find out. 

I don't see how anyone could have seen this coming.

Sad really.  Maybe Tepper got engulfed in the "Welcome to the Panthers where everyone gets to stay a year or two too long" vibe that we have been putting off since 2000.

But you'd be looking at an empty BOA and a furious fan base with nothing to look forward to in all of 2020. If you draft a QB in 2020 and he's bad, then you will still have a shot at Trevor in 2021. If he's good and we win, then you don't need Trevor, and you're set for the future and you didn't lose 2020. I wouldn't be against bpa in 2020, but if it's QB then you have to take him.

I knew at the end of the 1st half we were in trouble. 12 seconds on the clock, you don't take a shot in the end zone down 4, BS run play and just kick a field goal. For fugs sake pull your nuts out and act like you give a damn. Easily plenty of time to try another pass play and then kick the field goal. Either Ron doesn't have confidence in Cam in that situation (then you need to honestly evaluate your QB), or your coach is playing the same old bullshit football that has been proven to lose over and over. Either way, you're set up for failure.

I understand your point and it does have merit but here's my issue. 

1997 draft, the first quarterback off the board was Jim Drunkenmiller. The next year (1998) the first pick was Payton Manning. Trevor could absolutely be a Manning type quarterback. 

I'd rather wait and get a generational talent than simply get a decent player because of need. 

The trick, of course, is Trevor might not pan out and the guy we draft in 19 could be amazing. I just have zero faith in our current coaches and GM to make the right decision.

Time for Tepper to bring in a "Coaching Consultant".

That way when Dave drops his axe on Ron they'll be someone waiting in the wings to take the reins.
