B.S. Onside Kick rules really ruin the game

It would be like trying to recover a wild fumble. I love it. They'd never do it.

I don't think the NFL is really trying that hard to fix it so much as they are to phase it out.

I and a lot of other fans do not want to see kickoffs removed. And the NFL claiming they're doing things in the name of player safety is bullsh-t as long as they keep pushing for 18 games.

Also, sorry guys, but I hate the Schiano idea.

Of course you do, old man!

Another reason why I love Greg Shiano's  idea to get rid of kickoffs all together.  This would be the most exciting game rule change in years.

This is basically what the competition committee approved in the offseason but the owners rejected, simply because the AFF did it first. Its so dumb.

NFL should be using the college system.

and the new kicker needs to work on his own side kicking game.

Even if we had the best onside kick specialist in the league, with the new rules in place it takes something just south of a miracle to recover one.

Can't remember where I heard it but someone had the idea that you could choose to kick off or take a 4th and 10 or 15 from fairly deep in your own territory. That would be better than the current rules. Being down 2 scores with less than 3 minutes on the clock means the game is effectively over.

Yep, mentioned it in my OP. NFL Competition Committee approved and recommended this THIS offseason and owners veto’d it.

edit:

While the owners on Tuesday mulled enhancing the use of video replay in officiating, they vetoed the idea of a one-year trial of a fourth-and-15 play from the offense's 35-yard line to replace the onside kick, considered one of the game's more dangerous plays. The powerful competition committee recommended the play by a vote of 7-1, but the owners were not swayed.”

well, his attempt was just bad.  No chance for a miracle.

But NFL OT is garbage.  Always has been.  College system is much better.  NFL ego prevents them from using it.

College overtime is an abomination that barely resembles football. The current overtime system is basically perfect and actually fairer if you look at the numbers.

how do the numbers show it is fairer?

numbers can't show fairness.

College system is junk too.  But it is better than the NFL system.  NFL system is better than what it was just a few short years ago.  Back then the college system was the greatest thing ever when compared to the joke the NFL was running in OT.

Reviews in general are bullshit anyway. The only time a review should be necessary is to determine the spot of the ball either in the field of play or on the sidelines/OB. The idea that players can make mistakes (penalties), but refs can't is simply ludicrous. Bring back the human factor- what you see is what is called. Keep going in the current direction and every fugging play will be reviewed.

Look, all the new PI calls, both offense and defense, which were reieiwed during preseason (I think the total was in the 30's) and none of them were overturned. First game of the new season, Packers at Bears, and 2 were overturned.

Give it a few years, there will be 22 guys in a booth, all watching their assigned single player, who has a dedicated camera. Each player has his own camera and his own ref.....

"There were 7 penalties on the play. 3 offensive holding, 2 defensive holding, a hands to the face- defense, and offensive PI. We'll replay the down."

If the game comes down to you needing to attempt, and recover an onside kick, you were very likely to lose with the old system, and even less likely to win with the new one.

Or, just go out and beat your damn opponents head in and not have to worry about it.
