He plays like Cam used to but without the power running obviously

I’m a YUGE Cam guy.  From day 1.  Still am.

And I agree.  But Watson is a better passer.   And Watson is more clutch in big moments IMO but has less time in so that isn’t really apples to apples though

its not just bombs.  its deep crosses, deep outs...   it's a signature part of norv's offense.  without it norv, being old as fug, well you see what he can come up with - lets kill cmc because he is all i can think to do, and my buddy ron already killed cam

Ok, stop.  This keeps getting tossed around as "truth" and it's fiction.

Let's start with the fiction that Norv / Ron / our team is running CMC into the ground.  It's completely false.

Emmitt Smith during the Norv OC years:

  • 1991 - 365 carries, 49 receptions, 414 total touches.
  • 1992 - 373 carries, 59 receptions, 432 total touches.
  • 1993 - 282 carries, 57 receptions, 339 total touches (Emmitt missed 2 games this year).

LaDainian Tomlinson during the Norv OC year:

  • 2001 - 339 carries, 59 receptions, 398 total touches.

CMC in under Norv last year:

  • 2018 -  219 carries, 107 receptions, 326 total touches.

Hopefully this clears up that misconception.  CMC had fewer TOTAL touches than some of the "bellcow" backs under Norv had.  In fact, CMC had fewer touches than these guys had CARRIES with the exception of the year Emmitt was hurt.

Also, let's continue to give Norv credit for creativity.  Did you see the wildcat read option against the Rams?  That's pretty damn creative.  The defense was CLEARLY not prepared for that.  What about that swing pass to DJ?  Yes, I know, it was ruled a fumble - let's not regurgitate that discussion here - but look at the play as a whole.  Had it been complete, we would have had DJ running at full speed in the open field against one guy.  Yea, I'll take that.

Finally, to bring this all back around to the original topic of the thread, look at the film.  We had Curtis running some deep stuff, we wanted to get DJ deep.  It wasn't there.  Take a look at this, this is the top receivers from week 1, sorted by the amount of cushion being given at snap:

When DB's are giving you nearly TEN FREAKING YARDS of cushion, what choice do you have?!?!?

I can't see what they were giving Curtis because he didn't have enough targets to make the chart.  I suspect Curtis was seeing the same thing, given that he's actually the faster, more fluid receiver.  While our WR's are young and "technically" unproven, they clearly scare the (*&@# out of opposing DC's.  It should also give you an indication that opposing teams do believe Cam is healthy again.  If DB's are giving this much cushion, daring Cam to throw the short stuff, the must believe him capable of hurting them deep, nothing else makes sense.

Watch this MNF game between the Saints and Texans and you can see why fans like me are complaining about not going deep.

I watched it. Its' not the occasional throw deep. Its' the incessant whining on every play "why didn't he throw it deep", "we need to throw it deep", "damn boring ass football, throw it deep". You throw deep when given the opportunity and to keep the defense honest. Flinging the ball down field every play or even every series would be stupid.

Yes i would like to see more deep shots to keep defense honest.  What bothers me is the constant 3rd down situations where we need 3-5 yards for first down and Cam dumps it off 2-3 yards shy of first down marker to a receiver being blanketed by a defender and we come up a little short of first down.  Like WTF?  However....if the opposing team is faced with a same situation, we play freaking ten yards off the reciever because lord help us if they should try and throw a hail mary on us.  smh

Cam is an above avg pocket passer imo. Thing is he has to have a CONSTANT steel wall in front of him to get in rhythm. Cam needs a consistent oline to be a consistent pocket passer. That's why Cam misses easy open throws when he has a clean pocket because he cant bounce back from having pressure or getting sacked the previous play. Cam dont operate like that. You can call it a weakness....it is what it is.(shrugs)

Cam is a rhythm passer. That's why I feel like he do better in hurry up offense. Cam mind/emotions works like that.

When things get to rough back there  Cam reverts back to his bad mechanics.

Now Cam has never been great throwing on the run like a Wilson. Cam is more of a scramble/and run for a huge 70 yard td run guy then scramble/and throw a 70 yard td.
