See, that's not really true.

Let's compare to CMC's 2018 where he had 219 carriers and 107 receptions (326 total touches).

Norv was the Dallas OC from 1991 to 1993.  In those years, here are Emmitt's touches:

• 1991 - 365 carries, 49 receptions, 414 total touches.
• 1992 - 373 carries, 59 receptions, 432 total touches.
• 1993 - 282 carries, 57 receptions, 339 total touches (Emmitt missed 2 games this year).

In fact, you can also look at 2001 when Norv was the OC for the Chargers in LT's rookie season . . . 

• 2001 - 339 carries, 59 receptions, 398 total touches.

By the time Norv returned to the Chargers as the HC, the Chargers had Sproles in there sharing touches and relieving the load.  I don't remember if Turner was calling the plays for them, but if he was, it's clear that Norv realized he needed to keep his best back fresh if he had a suitable backup, which Sproles clearly was.

Bottom line here is that CMC actually has a significantly lighter workload than Emmitt Smith had in the Norv years, and less than LT had when he was the only option for OC Norv in SD.

I would actually not be mad at making sure to use the backup RBs more this Thursday considering  it's a short week, Christian already got a ton of touches Sunday, and overusing a shortlived position is probably a possibility that no one really wants to think about. 

22 is clearly our best player on offense, but we should at least take preserving him to avoid Todd Gurley and Larry Johnson burnout seriously as a priority

He’s the only player that played hungry yesterday. Olsen is clearly physically over the hill, Cam is in this weird mental funk, Moore can’t hold the ball and Curtis doesn’t get opportunity. I’m very thankful for mccaffrey.

I mean, the LA Rams and Chargers situation show you that the position is volatile and while it's great to have an elite one the position isn't as valuable in relation to the rest of the roster; and you can literally just find a guy and focus on the rest of the team.  

That fact has got nothing to do with 22 being top three in the league

But like i said, if he's as good as y'all say he is and he looks so far he's gonna make it hard on them since he can say "I'm your slot guy too, so I demand 20 mil a year". Might overprice himself.

(But if Hurney just can't say no and the team is bullish on keeping him they'd consider signing him at the end of THIS YEAR before the salary cap goes up and he can ask for like 25mil a year. At least try to save some money and be smart about extending a RB)

Despite assertions to the contrary, it wasn't just CMC.  Other  than one fumble, the receivers played well.  DJ Moore caught everything thrown his way, and Samuel would have had a big play if Cam hadn't thrown it 10 feet over his head.   The Oline blocked well for the most part, especially in the run game.  

 

I thought one of the issues we had yesterday was that we tried to force the ball to Olsen a little to much.  9 targets, 4 receptions.  And one of those missed targets was our only int.  Understandable two years ago, no reason now.
