Need to buy SUV by end of the year

I've owned 2 Tahoes and an Expedition. No question the most comfortable were the Tahoes, but the best tailgate vehicle was the Ford. I could fit 6' folding banquet tables in the back. All had 3rd row, but the Tahoe's seats are very heavy and cumbersome to remove and install.

2 Tahoes, 2 Yukon Denali's, 1 Yukon SLT (wanted 4X4 instead of AWD), 1 Ford Expedition, 1 Jeep Grand Cherokee (not really applies since it has no 3rd row seat), 1 Ford Explorer.

By far the Chevy/GM products were the most comfortable, and also had the most maintenance issues, and cost the most per mile to drive them because of mechanical issues.

The Explorer and Expedition didn't ride as well, but held up much longer, especially the drivetrains.

Jeep has been my favorite to drive, but it's a smaller SUV.

Were I looking again, I would be really hard to steer around the new Expedition with the 3.5 twin turbo V6.  That's a badass truck, with great milage to boot.

My GM trucks were problem free and I never had either in the shop.

My Expedition blew a head gasket at 62k miles (60,000 warranty) and Ford refused to give me any help although I had virtually every maintenance document known to man showing the truck had been properly maintained. I got it fixed and sold it immediately on eBay Motors w/full disclosure.

My wifes 03 Tahoe still runs like a champ, 250k+ on the ticker, still on original engine and transmission.  Absolute tank.

My 10 Tahoe blew an engine at 50k, my 12 Yukon dropped a rear end at 70k, and had to go into the tranny on her to keep her going.

My denali's were trouble free.  The Explorer and Expedition were as well.

I got a Yukon XL so trying to get something a bit smaller but that fits a big family.  I want Tahoe bad but trying not get almost the same vehicle I already have.

Get the Expedition. My FIL swears by them, and we have a big family of varying ages that spend long drives together without killing each other. It's roomy enough for six plus a LOT of stuff in the back. He's never had a major maintenance issue with any of them.

We have a Yukon XL already for long road trips.  In last 7 months we drove to Canada, to Miami and to Outer Banks with 3 kids.  Love that car except occasional issues. Looking for something smaller.  I was in brand new expedition last week and it awesome.  I just could not turn off the lights in 2nd row.

I've had two Tahoe's and currently on a Yukon Denali. This will probably be my last of that platform. Seems like each one has progressively gotten worse in quality.  My parents just bought a '19 Tahoe so hopefully that one breaks the trend.

GM doesn't like to put enough transmission behind those engines and then tried to use torque management to make up for it but that just kills the driving experience and creates more heat in the transmission which makes them wear faster. Those LS engines are fantastic but displacement on demand sucks and it's a valve lifter killer. Fortunately, both torque management and DOD can be tuned out through a custom tune (my Denali has DOD tuned out and torque management reduced by 50%).

    • It amuses me how Goff's name the last few years is often used to compare to subpar or underperforming QB's. Now on the surface I get it. But when you look at his numbers he's been the same QB all along. He's improved his completion % but even with the Rams he averaged 63.4. And that Super Bowl he played in they should have won honestly. If we can get a QB as good as Goff I'll be pretty damn pleased.
    • And it remains to be seen if Goff has that ability or not. Plenty of very good QB's like Goff were not able to get over those playoff humps. Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins, etc. You can still be an upper tier QB and never get over that hurdle. McVay just thought(and hasn't been wrong yet) Goff was never going to be that guy.
    • You literally simply have to think logically for either of those guys. Smith is locked up on a deal for 2025, so we would have to trade for him or he gets cut. Neither of those scenarios are likely in the first place.  Wilson will be 37 in 2025. Why on earth would he have any interest in a situation that is far worse than he was given in Denver and wasn't able to win there? He's a guy that can drop into any ready to win franchise in the NFL and immediately elevate their chances of winning(provided they already have QB issues).  Frankly, that is either speculation that even David Newton should be embarrassed by or it shows how disconnected with reality some people in our organization are.   I do agree with him on getting a veteran QB, however. That's our best chance to keep developing our talent.
