One possible explanation relates to the ability of teams to carry forward unused salary cap space from the prior year. This is optional. Teams must notify the league of the amount they wish to carry over from one year to the next by 14 days before the new league year.

I do not know if the league publically releases this information.

Hes got a good idea about cap stuff. Dont take over-the-cap and sportac at their numbers, they are good guesses. https://www.nflpa.com/public-salary-cap-report is what the league uses, it just lags behind a couple days. Thats the real number, just updates slow.

Most answers have been given by others already.

You can’t go over the salary cap. Or the transaction wouldn’t go through.

All these sites work with the information they have. None get it all right. They do what they can. Not too mention it is a busy time of year for them.

I just want to know where Field Yates is getting info from? I can’t make sense of his numbers but hate to question someone with his resources. I just can’t find an extra 10M.

Its 9 on NFLPA site, 16 form yates. Only thing I can think of is McCoy, I dont know for sure but remember him having a per-game/active wording in his contract. I think his 7 million base is tied to being active on gameday, but its a guess.

That’s why I didn’t question that Yates was the only one right. Superior resources.

Now the question is why?

Marty typically gets the books together before the season starts in order to roll cap over and sign extensions afterwards (or during the season) while having some pocket money available just in case

You can restructure if you need to anytime. Why now? You don’t need it for extensions. So why make KK impossible to move on from, for no reason. Why do you want to roll over cash to where it was in the first place. How does that make sense?

Couldn't tell you, just parroting what Igo and other informed posters have mentioned.
