Wade Phillips owns Norv Turner

What were the records of the teams involved?

Certainly, that's a concerning stat.  At the same time, if you know it, you must assume Norv knows it.  If you believe that Norv has never had a QB like Cam, if you believe that our young playmakers are really on the verge of breaking out, if you believe this team is on the verge, then you continue to back your team.

Regardless of this stat, we have to know that this is going to be a tough game against a top notch team.  We're going to have to be great in all three phases to have a chance.  We're going to have to limit mistakes we make and capitalize on any they make.

You should change this toWade Phillips absolutely OWNS the Panthers. The Panthers are 2-10 against Wade Phillips, as a DC or HC, in franchise history. With a point differential of: 271-134.

All of Wade Phillips games against the Panthers:

1995 as DC of the Bills: 31-9 Bills

1998 as HC of the Bills:  30-14 Bills

2002 as DC of the Falcons: 30-0 Falcons

2002 as DC of the Falcons: 41-0 Falcons

2003 as DC of the Falcons: 23-3 Panthers

2003 as DC of the Falcons: 20-14 Falcons

2004 as DC of the Chargers: 17-6 Chargers

2007 as HC of the Cowboys: 20-13 Cowboys (this game is questionable)

2009 as HC of the Cowboys: 21-7 Cowboys

2011 as DC of the Texans: 28-13 Panthers

2015 as DC of the Broncos: 24-10 Broncos (SB)

2016 as DC of the Broncos: 21-20 Broncos

I am very nervous about this game.

If we lose we lose it is week 1. If we do lose I'm concerned with how we played. If we get our assess handed to us that's a problem or if we just look downright bad that's not good

Wade Phillips is a good defensive coordinator.  His dad was a strong defensive coach, too, who happened to be a good head coach of largely defense-first teams.  It is in the family line.

He frustrates a lot of offensive coaches.  Any game against one of his defenses can turn into a chess match very quickly, requiring a lot of in-game adjustments.

That probably explains his record against the Panthers, which Hepcat's numbers break down to just over 10 points a game.  Our OCs have generally not been a dynamic bunch over the years, with a couple of exceptions sprinkled in.  The lack of offensive adjustments in the Super Bowl was indicative of the pattern, and rather embarrassing, at that.

Norv is at least more coherent than that.  The question is whether it is/will be effective.  His historical weakness is he likes offense "his way" and will sometimes abandon what is working in favor of that, with the results being predictable.  Let's hope he is a little better at the chess game on Sunday.

This is not the content I wanted to wake up to.

It’s misleading anyway.  Look at the quality of teams Norv had in those match-ups and compare them to the teams Wade had.

It doesn’t prove anything.  When the teams were fairly equal in talent, the games were close between the two.
