Enough wavering on the fence you have found so comfortable.

Time to take a stand.

The Panthers get off to a rock start early in the first.  Blown coverage by Boston results in a Brandin Cooks TD with just two minutes into the game.  It does not get any better on the Panthers first possession when Donald gets a sack on Newton’s first past attempt.  McCaffrey can’t find a hole and Newton’s second past attempt is hurried resulting in an immediate three and out.  The Rams proceed to march down the field on second drive ending in a Gurley touchdown.  Panthers already down early 14-0 with four minutes remaining the first quarter.  McCaffrey still having a tough time finding holes in the defense but Cam’s arms starts to heat up moving the ball into Rams territory at the end of the first.

Carolina’s o-line is starting to hold up in the second quarter.  Cam has all day to throw and throws a strike to Samuel for a 43 yard TD.    14-7 with 9:00 to go in the second.  Rams get the ball back and Panthers force a quick three and out.  Goeff is starting to look a little confused at the different looks the Panthers are throwing at him.  The Panthers start the drive near mid-field from a good punt return.  McCaffrey still having trouble running the ball. Cam is feeling comfortable with runs & quick passes. Another good drive, but they stall at the 8 yard line with a Slye field goal.  The Panther defense finished off the Rams offense with another three out ending the half at 14-10 Rams.  Cam finished the half 11 of 14, 1 TD and 10 yards rushing for McCaffrey.

Panthers receive the ball at the start of the half.  Not giving up on running the ball, McCaffrey gains 55 yards on 5 carries resulting in a TD on the first drive of second half.  Rejoice… the Panthers are winning 17-14.  Rams drive down the field on the next possession but a sack a on third down by Tre Boston forces a long missed field attempt.  Next drive is a heavy dose of McCaffrey with easy connections to Moore and Hogan.  Olsen finishes off the drive with and easy pitch and catch at the corner of the end zone.  24-14 Panthers heading into the fourth quarter.

Rams continue to struggle on offense in the fourth quarter. The Panthers D is pinning their ears back resulting in a sack by Irvin and Kuechly tipped passed to Cockrell early in the fourth.   Panthers move the ball the next possession but end up punting giving the ball back to the Rams deep in their own territory.  Panthers defense really having their way now.  Goeff is continually hurried finally throwing the ball in the hands of Donte Jackson.  With 7:00 minutes to go, the Panthers put in the heavy package knowingly going to run the ball to chew out the clock.  In years past, the Panthers have always failed to churn out any yards allowing teams to get back into games.  Although McCaffrey struggled in the first half, he is picking up big gains of 8-10 yards per touch in the fourth.  Panthers march down the field and Armah scores on a three yard run up the middle with 2:30 minutes to go.  Rams have another three and out and Newton kneels down to a 31-14 victory for the Panthers.

Newton finishes 21-24, 1 touchdown and 28 yards rushing.  McCaffrey held to only a couple of catches but had 131 yards on the ground gaining 121 of those in the second half.

My prediction is 31-14 Panthers!

- Cam sacked 4-6 times  (2-3 coming from Darnold) and pressured a ton, leaving us scratching our heads about Marty's direction of this OL this past offseason

- Defense Strong in passing game, Weak on Run D.   We also sack Goff several times, at least 1 coming from Burns.  Gurley runs for 100+ and 2 TDs as we have learning curves in this new scheme.  Also several in here next week question Poe.

- at least 1 Boston missed tackle

- Long Samuel TD

-CMC leads team in receptions

Panthers lose a close one 24-17
