Not a bad track record for this regime. As you can see, the quarterback deserves a lot of credit for that.

When does the quarterback not get most of the credit good or bad? I love how folks act as if every head coach's success isn't highly tied to the success of their quarterback. Show me one successful coach who has consistently had great success with crappy quarterbacks.  Of course the team's success is highly influenced by play of the quarterback. Sure you could argue the Ravens won the Superbowl without a good quarterback a few decades ago. But would even Belicheck be great without Brady?

Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl. Kerry Collins played in a super bowl. Rex Grossman played in a super bowl

I’m not really disagreeing with you, but it certainly happens

And only Dilfer won a Super Bowl with arguably the best defense of all time. But that doesn't address my post. Again what coach has had consistent success with crappy quarterbacks. You pointed out three examples where a coach has ridden a great defense one year with a crappy quarterback although you could argue Collins didn't suck for the Giants. So again  what coach has had consistent success without a good to great.quarterback. the answer is still none. Of course quarterbacks for winning teams have to make scoring drives in the 4th quarter, that is why they get paid 20-30 million a year. If you can't make game winning drives in the 4th quarter when it counts you get replaced by someone who can.

In the last 20 years or so, none.  Historically, Joe Gibbs won three superbowls with average/slightly above average qb's, but the rules were different then.

But I do agree with you, the Ron can't win without Cam narrative is ridiculous.  Bill B has a losing record without Tom Brady.  Bill Walsh never won a Superbowl without Montana.  Good players need good coaches and vice versa.

    • Just had Thanksgiving meal with a couple dozen family and friends. I lucked out and got one of the smoked turkey legs. Stuffing, mashed taters and gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, kale, smoked ham, chicken and rice, corn, lima beans, cranberry sauce, and great people. My brother got his guitar out and we got to singing. Lots of actual conversations with people I hardly  ever get to see, haven't seen in a while, or who I never met before. Just a great moment to remember.
    • 3-8 would be a higher win percentage than 3-9
    • Same... With the personnel the Niners had, that defense could have been historically good in the right hands. Under Wilks they were certainly good, they didn't quite rise to that level. Honestly, I see Wilks kinda like I see Rivera: fantastic person, decent head coach. Skill wise, phenomenal DB coach, so-so DC. His greatest strength is his leadership. Hard to find many better in that department. In the Xs and Os / execution area though, not as good. Bottom Line: Wilks is the sort of coach that needs a staff that excels in those aspects of the game where he's weaker. But, like Rivera, I don't know that he scouts assistants very well. That as much as anything might be why he's not in the NFL now.
