Are We/Carolina Panthers Ready For Regular Season

A team that lost the SB and has not played its starters since that game is gonna travel to the East Coast to play a hybrid defense (no tape) and defend a unique offense led by (when healthy) an MVP caliber QB?

Gimme that home squad in what could be an absolute smacking of a so-cal team riding last year's hype.

If we do beat them, and we should, they will really struggle this year.

It seems the NFL likes to dog it's Superbowl runner up.  This is similar to what they did to us after our SB appearance.  Rams deserve to start the year at home, not going across the country and playing a team like the Panthers

The Rams didn’t light it up in pre-season either.  Of the two teams, I would expect the Rams to come out more focused and proficient early.  The Panthers generally start slow in every game, often not scoring a TD until the 2nd Q.  As NFL games often hinge on momentum, I don’t like the possibility of handing LA the momentum early and trying to claw our way back into the game based on Cam having to drop back 40 times.  That is recipe for a 25 point loss.

However, if the Panthers are able to snag the momentum early with a surprising 1st Q TD or maybe a turnover or something, then we could have a chance.

Advantages for LA:

panthers historically have low energy and low focus in the 1st Q

carolina’s O line is questionable in pass blocking

our D often doesn’t get off the field on 3rd down

Advantages for Car:

time and location...it’s a home game against a traveling West coast team

that’s pretty much it

I’m not saying it’s a definite loss.  Far from it.  But based on patterns that are likely to continue from last year (namely Cam taking sacks on 3rd down and Goff finding open receivers to convert 3rd downs), I have a feeling that if the Panthers don’t enjoy home field advantage and take the momentum early, that we will end up getting out coached and our played in week 1.

The coaching match up is a distinct advantage for LA.  That might be the deciding factor.

The Panthers has one of the most versatile offense in the NFl. One of the best front 7 in the NFL, but nothing this season will surpass me. It wouldn't surprise me if they come dead last in the south or have the best record in the NFL.  Each season is different and the rams are a different team but I don't think the Panthers will win this game. The O-line looked the worst this preseason and going against that interior defense is not the way you want to start this season.

Obviously health is a big factor like it is to all 32 NFL teams but Cam and Luke is already slightly banged up and we didn't even play a regular season game.
