Seems like we're keeping Godwin for that reason. So do you want to keep two return specialists? Seems more of a waste than keeping Torrey as veteran depth.

Also, if two of our receivers get injured, I'd feel better with Smith in on 3 receiver sets than either Godwin or Ross to be honest. Smith isn't going to blow anyone away, but he proved he can fill in in short bursts when needed. Ross and Godwin are unknowns who hardly set the world on fire in the receiving game against 4th string corners.

Unlike Gettleman, Hurney doesn't like to cut late round draft picks, even 7th rounders.  Just like the Elder experiment, had he not been a drafted player, he'd been gone a couple season ago.   Gettleman treated 6th and 7th rounders like undrafted FAs, if they don't cut the mustard then why create spots for them?  I'm not a Gettleman fan by any stretch, but on that point I agree with him.  Godwin looked okay, but he wasn't going anywhere.  Even if he did get cut initially, he was most definitely going to the PS.

Edit:  Ooops, news is moving really fast right now!  Nevermind.....

Obada has made significant strides this year. I don’t know how anyone thought he was gonna get cut for Cox Jr.

I would be surprised if Obada doesn't get significant playing time this year... he has been a force.

And yes, he did take a lot of snaps in the preseason vs some other guys, but I don't think that was as much of an indication of the fragility of his roster spot as others think.

Obada has still not played that many snaps relative to the average player by the time they get to the NFL, plus he is learning a new position.

The fact remains that he has the athleticism of a high draft pick and the drive of an undrafted guy.

Even putting aside his incredible story (and it truly is), he is on the team b/c he can flat out play.

He showed flashes of it last year in what was he defacto rookie season... he didn't luck into winning Player of the Week

I am excited to see what he can do this year

WTF???  I completely overlooked that we cut Godwin...  wtf???  There is no way he makes it back to the PS.

Much less likely than Holyfield. Out of the gate anyway. A 7th round WR with some PR abilities is easier to stash for a few days. Remember this is fluid.

I disagree with you on this.  I think Godwin has some talent, especially for a 7th Rounder.  I think he can develop into a solid possession receiver.

My concern is that he doesn't have the high-end speed or burst needed to be a great return man, and that was his path to make the team, at least this year.

I hope we do sign him to the practice squad.  It's certainly possible a team signs him, but I don't think it's a definite by any stretch.
