My conclusion is that if the Panthers lose Cam, we are done for the year. But, if we lose Cam it is far more exciting to watch Heinicke and Grier play than Allen. Allen got to run with our best preseason squad for basically four games and put up a combined 6 points while he was in the games. One field goal got blocked but even then you could say he should have put up 10 points. Grier and Heini both completed a higher percent of their passes, for more yards, they were basically a wash rushing the ball, but the one consistent of the preason was that Allen did nothing to score. If I had to pick a depth chart today knowing that Grier is absolutely going to be the #3 based on where we drafted him my chart is Cam > Heinicke > Grier > Allen.

If its actually supposed to be a competition and the objective of the offense is to put points up on the board then Allen was by far the worst at it of all three. Bring on the hate but Taylor should be the 2 going into the season.

What about the stats from all practices and training camp? Pre season games are a glorified practice and I trust the coaches opinion on who will be the best backup for the team. Ron and Marty’s job is on the line, I doubt they take the backup qb selection lightly.

This is a completely fair take but the issue of Allen vs Heini is that we know Allen almost exclusively has practiced with higher tier players than Heini. How can you judge them fairly then?

Because we needed another one of these threads. I'm almost positive that we will pick up a vet to be our #2

My thread was based on facts. Not just opinion. I could post the stats in another thread but it would get buried and nobody would see how poor our offense has been with Allen in vs the others.

Heini is a vet who practiced against higher tier players last year, and we know what we have with him. Allen has the higher ceiling and has grown a lot from year 1 to year 2

Facts about pre season game stats. If that’s the case Cam should have been benched his rookie year because he looked very rough in pre season.

    • yeah. winter backpacking trips were the most miserable and amazing experiences. same with the coldest and snowiest hunting  experiences. i love being in it. makes for incredible memories. the worse it was, the more i ended up loving it. made the greatest memories.  i just want to get out of it afterwards.
    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
