Our OL situation requires QB to be durable.  It’s just common sense.

To be honest the OL actually looked improved tonight, true maybe not top knotch, but a lot better than the last two weeks... and the DL was kicking. DL always jell's quicker than OL so I think we will be fine in the long run... personally I think we shot ourselves in the foot with the relaxed preseason game plans... Sure injury is a worry, but I think groups have to learn how to work together under fire to get good.... Practice isn't the same.

I have no idea if you’re being sarcastic or not so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

No I wasn't being sarcastic. Sure Allen did great against the Saints defence, but the Saint's defence aren't the invincible equation of the Saint's team. Brees operated the Offence and that is were the Saints are dangerous!

LMAO,,,, No, but to be honest just how much has the first string played this whole preseason? Goes back to what I said. Practice is practice when you go under fire things are different. I think we will be fine over the season. Defence will jive first, and I beleive we have a top 5 Defence.... OL and Offence has the most overall talent we have ever had, they may take some time to jell but they will be fine.

I remember why I don't have football discussions on the huddle anymore.

People forget it's a 53 man sport.

You mean the Brees led offense that scored 12 points against the Panthers 2 weeks before?

I agree Allen is the planned backup no doubt... but out of the three Heinecke has shown the most heart. Kinda sad a draft pick with possible future ability will trump a player who had the misfortune of being knockout with injury his first shot last year.

Heinecke has been on 3 teams in 4 years and only played in 7 games, 6 of those last year. In those 4 years, he's only put up 363 combined yards. I'm not buying that he's a legit backup. I think he was brought in last year to hold a clipboard and help the Turners install their offense.

Yeah, but he didn't build it against Brees. I'm sorry but your not playing the Saints unless your playing against Brees

Brees keeps our offense from being able to score? Brees not playing made it easier for Allen to score?

Not sure I've been watching the same game of football as you, but a pretty simple understanding is that QBs play against the defense. They don't play on defense.

Allen doing ok against the Saints D had nothing to do with Brees not playing.

Winning? Yeah, I'll buy that. Our defense probably wouldn't have looked as good against Brees and we likely wouldn't have won the game. But Brees not playing had no bearing on how our offense did.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
