Anyone not supporting Joey after how he has played from the word go as a rookie is a shitty fan that deserves a losing team.

How are you going to hate on your own rookies for doing well? This team has had one winning season since 2015. We need as many young and talented players as we can get.

This is where having a football minded GM is important.  Ron will want to go with Gano, and any normal GM would tell him to fug Off.....Hurney can't do that as he just gave Gano a dumbass contract that is hamstringing us at the position.

So, now you are asking Hurney to go against Ron, and admit a mistake.

Feel like I've been down this road.

I could be eating crow in the next couple of days, but yes historically Ron would go with Gano because that is just what Ron does.

But some of yall forget the new big man in charge, Mr. Tepper, who has done everything but let this team rely on bad habits.  Tepper will have a say in this and I believe it will be a decision that isn't handled lightly.  Feel like Jerry in all these similar cases would be like "Do your thing Ron." Where as Tepper I feel like will say "Well, hold up on. This kid has done everything he needed."  Tepper will definitely hold up the conversation for a deeper thought.

Slye should be the kicker. Gano is going to IR for atleast 8 weeks word is.  There is a lack of kickers out there, ****ing 44 year old Matt Bryant was brought in for lords sake.  Slye is the guy going into week 8 and based on performance up until that point then make the decision.

Gano has put himself in a battle for his own position.  Is what it is.

I mean it doesn't have to black and white just yet guys. We can IR Gano and then reassess where things stand at the midpoint of the season. Best case scenario, Slye kills it and we move on from Gano. Worst case - We bring back Gano at week 8 and drop Slye. Neither are the worst possible things to happen.

What kind of makes me nervous is a scenario where it looks like every possible effort is being made to keep Gano around, or at least let him 'leave on his own terms".

That sort of thing really shouldn't ever factored into roster decisions, but Ron is Ron.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Gano has to be on the 53 to IR and allow him to return so we're burning a roster spot (in an offseason with some of the toughest decisions we've faced in a long time) for a guy who might come back?

If we IR Gano as part of the cut to 53, he can't play for us this year. We have to make him part of the 53 man roster then IR him to be able to bring him back week at the mid point.

For one game, yeah.

I will grant that it's a game against a tough opponent.

The larger issue for me is you have to cut a guy (and risk losing a guy) you would otherwise want to keep.

Understood. And yeah, you're doing it at a time when everybody is scrambling to build their final rosters.

It's not unusual for there to be a fair amount of churn between week 1 and week 2.

to be fair, he's not saying anything that plenty of other people aren't already thinking.

I don't know if it's true or not, but it's a common notion.

I think its actually the popular thought. Gano is making really good money for a kicker and we already passed on Butker over him so its like we are in it with him until the very end.
