If you are David Tepper and Ron Rivera ends the season.....

its time for Tep to piss on the hydrant and put his mark on the team...i just don't like the demeanor and personality of the team under Riv...its almost expressionless and emotionless...

That isn't what I saw on All or Nothing. I would say Rivera gets animated.

History only tells you where you were not where you are. I think Cam is healthy and as long as he stays within the framework of the offense and stops trying to be Superman and make plays that aren't there, he can stay healthy. The Oline will look much better if he concentrates on doing what guys like Brees and Brady do which is get the ball out quickly.

Hope, not history.

Gotcha.

If we had 3 losing seasons out of 8, I MAY be in the same boat as you.  If Cam's shoulder had held up last season, I would be there too.

Unfortunately, Cam's shoulder has not held up.  Ron has had more losing seasons than winning.

Again each season stands on it's own and what happened in the past has little bearing on the present. This is only Norv's second season here so the offense history makes no difference.  With Fewell running the secondary I expect a better result and with Rivera calling the defense I think they will return to top 10 at least. This roster may be one of the best we have assembled. Cam has had no issues throwing the deep ball and appears painfree. He wasn't 100% after the first surgery so the whole 2017 and 2018 seasons were with a less than 100% Cam.

Sure he could get hurt and that would be a significant issue but this offense doesn't require Cam to be Superman. Once he understands that and takes what the defense is giving him, he can be effective and be safe.

A complete teardown makes no sense at all and is a huge overreaction. We could go 11-5 and not win the division.

Several teams look good "on paper" this year. Carolina could possibly go 11-5 and miss the playoffs this in 2019!

Consider the following scenario.

2 years ago we went 11-5 and had to play a road game against the Saints in the wild card round. What if we finish 11-5 again but lose the tie breaker to NO or ATL and and the division is won with a 12-4 or 11-5 record.

We know 4 teams are automatically locked in by winning their division. That only leaves 2 more spots under the current playoff format.

Barring injuries/holdouts I could see the Cowboys and Eagles finishing around the 11-5/12-4 mark in the NFC East.

The same thing could happen in the NFC West with Seattle and LA.

The Bears should be good again. The Vikings will likely bounce back from a disappointing 2018 season and the Packers will probably be competitive as well. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that 2 playoff teams could come out of the NFC North. We know at least  one of those 3 will be in unless the Lions shock everyone this year and take the division.

The NFC is stacked this year. If all of the above play up to their potential there is a chance that a 10-6 team...and possibly even an 11-5 team could miss the playoffs. It happened to NE the year Brady was hurt. I also think Miami missed the playoffs one year under Dave Wannstedt @ 11-5

If the team plays well, gets double digit wins, and misses the playoffs I wouldn't panic and automatically fire Ron. If the team shows signs of improvement I'd give him one more year to prove himself.

I simply do not agree with the bolded part.

In the past Cam injured his shoulder, it has shown up 2 seasons in a row.  Past became present, and until he gets through a full 16+ I'm going to be cautiously optimistic.

In the recent past Atlanta and New Orleans have kicked our asses, and both of those rosters seem to be as strong as ever.  Maybe the past doesn't matter, but until we start beating them again, I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic.

I can understand a cautious approach especially if you are betting money or have something to lose. But what do you lose it you go head long into the season wildly optimistic? Being wrong? Been there and done that probably today already. You might get your hopes up and be disappointed?  Gee that didn't happen in 2018, right?

Maybe it is me but I like to be optimistic and take chances. Maybe why my wife and I are going to London to see the Panthers play Tampa.  Maybe the reason that until recently I would routinely jump off a perfectly good mountain flailing myself out in space attached to a rope 50 yards above the ground rapelling. It is fine to live cautiously but the fun is living balls out as long as you stay within your skill ability. As a fan there is no skill involved. So I understand folks being cautious and hedging their bets. There is nothing wrong with that. Again before I get the negative blowback, I am speaking for myself, no one else.

Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping we are good, but just not expecting that.  I don't love our coaching, I hate our general manager, and I think that Tepper is just treading water with both until we near the lockout and he can figure out if Cam can still hold up.  Just not a fan of this approach.

I'll be in London, I'll still support the Panthers....just like I always do, but I'm just not overly optimistic.  Maybe that's just my personality when it comes to sports teams.

As to the taking chances, I scuba dive all the time shooting fish and shoowing away sharks.  I routinely fish far offshore knowing that even a small storm could mean lights out for me.  Hell, I work in a field where your next paycheck is NEVER guaranteed.

Chances aren't an issue, just would prefer to be surprised and excited, rather than let down by the Panthers once again.

I scuba dive too.  We might have more in common than I thought. Since you live on the "edge" I invite you to let go about the Panthers too. Ride the hell out of the train as far as it takes you. The older I get the more I know that being cautious is over rated. That song- live like you are dying - has become my theme song. But riding a bull like Foo Man Choo is not on my bucket list. Going to Miami if we get there is though.

Ha, I think that anyone on this board would wonder who kidnapped me if I posted in the record thread talking about 19-0, or Super Bowl Baby....or something like that.

Hell, even the night before the SB in 15 I DM'd Kurb asking if he was nervous.  I had an awful feeling about the next day.

I support North Carolina State University athletics and the Carolina Panthers.  Both have taught me lessons that are still stuck in my head.

Maybe I should have been more nervous before the Superbowl. I remember a lot of Denver fans talking about how their defense was going to kill us and honestly I totally disregarded it.  The next day after the game going around San Francisco in my Panthers gear, I got lots of comments. Didn't care though, it isn't like I was going to stop wearing my colors just because we lost.  Having supported the Eagles and 76ers  for decades of losing records before converting to a Panther fan and Hornet fan, I learned to forget the disappointments and don't let them overshadow the positives. Now if only we could have back to back winning seasons..........

That was a bad trade!  Especially as it goes to the Bobnets...
