If you are David Tepper and Ron Rivera ends the season.....

If you are David Tepper and Ron Rivera ends the season with a 10-6 record but a wild card weekend exit from the playoffs, what do you do?

1) Keep him for one more season as a prove it year (he will be going into the 2020 as a lame duck year) Cam and Rivera are linked and both need to prove themselves before a new contract is given.

2) Extend Rivera

2) Fire him and bring in new blood.

We are at a crossroads after this season. As you all know we have a massive amount of free agents coming up, and we only have 42 players under contract next year. Cams contract is up the following season and that is when the current NFL CBA is set to expire. After this season decisions are going to be made to move on and build a team with Rivera, or completely overhaul the coaching staff/team. If your coach has a good regular season record at 10-6 but a quick playoff exit, what decision would you make if you were Tepper?

(Get a good look at the players under contract below and the massive list of free agents with only 35 million cap space currently)

Depends on how we lose, if it’s the dreaded the team looks unprepared, not focused, poo show I fire him.

The dreaded one offensive player runs wild while no adjustments are made than I still fire him.

Basically if it’s not typical Ron Rivera errors that cause us to lose I bring him back, if it is than I cut bait. Can’t be losing games due to clock management, starting incapable players, ect

I’ll say this, if the team starts 9-1, backs into the playoffs with a 1-5 finish, and loses in the wildcard....I would have to consider firing them both at that point. But there’s a lot of if’s in that scenario.

It’s almost a package deal at this point. I don’t think you fire one without firing the other. They’re sort of connected at the hip.

There’s a lot of pressure on these guys. They got a free pass this offseason, but Tepper put a lot of things in place to make it go the way he wants it to go (more analytics, Ron calling plays, etc). They have to make the playoffs, and that’s no sure thing.

Again, they lost seven straight games at one point last year. The feeling is they’ve gotten better and faster this off-season, and hopefully the repaired shoulder will carry them.

Get rid of him even if we win the SB, because it will be like 2015, because of the players, not Rivera.

He’s one of the best Monday-Saturday coaches out there I think, but he is a beyond awful game day coach.  Makes mistakes that any 10 year old playing Madden knows not to make, too stubborn and can’t adjust mid game, just a terrible game day coach unfortunately.

Cam only has had a few years left of possible elite play, Dump Ron and bring in a creative offensive minded coach.

Cam is a Ferrari that we’ve been driving like a Prius for his whole career and I can’t stand it, we should have the most unstoppable offense in the league, but we don’t, because of too conservative Ron.

The record for teams Ron and Hurney have put together are:

6-10

7-9

7-9

If they put another clunker together, Marty is gone at the very least. If the defense doesn’t perform (most expensive D line in the league), Ron’s ass is gone along with Hurney.

Talent evaluation (finding diamonds in the rough), coaching, and game plan strategy are what wins games these days and Tepper knows if. I really think when a superior option (GM or coach) becomes available, he’s going to make a move regardless of record.

10-6 Ron stays and until he can put back to back winning seasons, I wouldn't be thrilled about extensions longer than a year.

I wish I knew what Tepper would do but I just don't know what would happen if we went 8-8 or less. Hell, would 9-7 and missing the playoffs be bad enough to get Ron fired?
