Meanwhile, Falcons have some kicker woes.

There's one thing we don't really know about Slye yet. When he misses a kick in a game (and it will happen, no one remains perfect), will he be able to come back in a clutch moment and make the next one? It's a big deal and resiliency is one of the most important traits in a kicker.

But hey, whatever floats your boat.

We also "don't really know" if Graham Gano is going to be healthy again, or if he'll still be any good if he heals.

Neither do the Panthers. Hence the story about their being "nervous about Gano".

Remember though that we're discussing best case scenarios here.

Even if Gano is able to kick again this season, he's realistically only got a few more years left, and an expensive contract on top of that.

That's why, as LG also posted, Joey Slye being good is actually a better scenario for us. A good Slye will be far cheaper and can be kept around a lot longer.

This is the point I was trying to make when I made the other thread on Gano not kicking.  This is the same injury from December.  And it hasn’t healed?  Then how is he actually going to finish this year?

I just don’t want to be in a playoff hunt and Slye has been pilfered by another team and Gano now hurt.  What’s the plan then Castanzo?

My daughter is a diehard Falcons fan and she is upset that they released Matt Bryant and replaced him with Blair Walsh. She thinks the front office was foolish to even make a change like this and it will not bode well at all when the season starts.

Bryant is 44, pulled a hamstring kicking a FG last year, and had back problems as well. List of kickers that were good at 44 is really really short.

Walsh isn't the replacement, he's there to remind Tavecchio that he can be replaced.

What people are saying in this thread about Gono & Syle is exactly what happened with Bryant and Tavechhio

Tavecchio is a decade younger than Bryant, much much cheaper, and was 5 for 5 in real games last year, including a 57 yarder.

3 of his misses this year are 50+, one was blocked, and Saca, he didn't shank the the 30 yarder, he barely missed it, barely missed all of them actually. Think they go into the regular season with Tavecchio and see what happens.

Giorigio Tevecchio was/is Matt Bryants replacement. Walsh was just recently signed.

PS.  There isn’t consolation prizes for missed field goals.  We can argue about the definition of “shank” all day.

But in reality:

gene wilder nothing GIF

Not accurate at all to say he shanked the kick, all I'm sayin'
