How is pointing out that Gano missed 12 extra points in 4 years, more than any other kicker in the league, a bias?

That’s cold hard facts @SBiiicrawl back into your hole

So we missed an average of three points a year.

Damning evidence Gano sucks, really.

In order...

Yes he has.

Do you consider Riverboat to be a good decision maker?

The agreed to pay package is a sunk cost, no longer a factor.

Ditto.  Stop whining about a sunk cost.

False.  Go study the sunk cost concept.

Again, sunk cost, not relevant.

I'm beginning to wonder about the mental acuity of...

Ok, We'll ignore the money. Let's look at some facts:

  • Gano is a solid kicker when he's healthy.
  • Gano's Panther Career accuracy is roughly 85.49%(165 of 193 FGs and higher than his overall career accuracy of 82.1 including his time with the skins)
  • Butker's accuracy across his first two years has been 89.9%(62 of 69)
  • Gano's accuracy for his first two years as a starter was 72.4% (55 of 76)
  • Butker's career is off to a better start than Gano's was.
  • Gano is injured and has a history of injury (2016, 2018, current offseason)
  • When injured, his accuracy has suffered in the past.
  • He has not kicked all preseason, not in a game, not even in practice - due to the current aforementioned injury.
  • We have brought in a new kicker who has been perfect on the preseason.

Given all of the current information and the information the team has from past experience - It would make sense in the short term to IR Gano with the potential to bring him back later in the season and using the first half of the year with Slye as a short term tryout. If Slye sucks, drop him and bring back Gano. If the dude's a beast, we can keep Gano on IR the rest of the year - have a camp battle next year, and then trade the loser away.

He does suck. Cost us a lot of games and momentum

“A lot of games and momentum”

Yes, his three field goals missed over the last two years are just so awful, and he’s never won a game on a 63-yard field goal or anything.

Don't care one way or the other but 54 of 69 is not 89.9%.

Yes he has, you are correct.

Would you rather your kicker miss kicks worth 1-point, or 3-points?

All kickers miss kicks...they all miss kicks of the 1-point variety....and they all miss kicks of the 3-point variety...this is undeniable.

An easy and bias free way to evaluate any kicker is what percentage of the possible points they can score --- do they actually score?

Over the last 2 seasons Gano scored 92.7% of all the points he could potentially have scored.

In that same time period Harrison Butker scored 91.7% of all the points he could possibly have scored.

Both excellent results.

What matters at this point in time is that were looking at the potential of making the same mistake again.

Really don't want to see that happen.

What's your crystal ball saying about Slye?

Is it guaranteeing he will be as good as Butker?

You actually just torpedoed your own position with that argument.

Remember, there's a huge difference in salary between the two. I'd have to look back at the exact numbers but I think it's in the range of five times as much. This would put the Panthers paying five times the salary to someone with only a 1% difference in effectiveness.

That's as clear an argument as any that the Panthers should have kept Butker over Gano.

1% can be a big deal in the kicking game. Would Butker have made the 63-yarder?
