Mario Addison could be cut/traded- save 8 million cap

With only about 25 players under contract.

Adding Shaq and Bradberry ups it to 27, may need that 8 million in space right now to do so. Even if you dont use it, roll it over cause 20 million for 25 players and signing draft picks....... hurney may need to go dumpster driving in the third world.

You don’t know how the salary cap works do you....  you can’t roll it over, we already hit our “spend” this year. Meaning if not used now, it’s gone. The money on Addison has already been “spent” in the 2019 cap as of may 23rd... so it wouldn’t carry over.

ive posted this before, read the last CBA and find “salary spend” rule

based on you theory, teams would be able to cut players at any point of the season and then have the money carry over into 2019..... do you see how you are wrong here?

Cut him to save $8M to do what....I fell like OP didn't think this through. Freeing up that money does littler to extend those guys as they're all under contract, and we have around 15M in available cap space at the moment.

We are geared up for a real playoff / superbowl run it makes 0 sense to cut the most established edge threat we have, in all seriousness the deeper the rotation the better.

Currently have 7 million is space, Im sure hurny has had talks about Bradberry. No telling what he would cost but it would be more than 7(ALL the cap space). 15 million is a lot more room than 7 to sign a good CB these days.

True but Mario is by far the worst out of the bunch, like m28 said "he looks like a giraffe on roller blades in space".

He is also, by far, the best OLB we have against the run. Something that is a liability, at this point, for the other 3. Burns is great, but teams will absolutely run at him until he shows he can set the edge.

Considering we will be in nickel 2/3rds of the time either Shaq or one of these OLB(Irvin/Haynes) won’t be on the field, Mario is even more important in that respect.

So no cap saving, are you sure? Thought for sure could get 8 in saving. Only spent rule I know of is 89/90 of teams cap must be spend. Does mario have a unique contract?

It will be an extension. His salary this year won’t change, or it will still be low if they decide they want to put some on this year. We don’t have to have 10M on our cap to sign Bradberry or anyone.

He is great against the run, but he also lost weight for the switch this year. He struggled hard to get to 265.

This is not true at all. If we did this, we could use that 8M this year or it rolls over. What rule says it can’t? I’ve never seen anything like that.

His high signing bonus may hit this year, they are spread out. It is all about the wording. Panthers only have 20mill in space next year, with about 25 under contract.

So great against the run, getting near 10 sacks a year, but might struggle on the 3 plays a game we ask him to cover the flats. I don’t know what else to tell you besides it’s not happening and shouldn’t.

You think hes the same player as a year ago in this new scheme, even with him losing weight and turning 32 in a few days?

So he will get 10 sacks and hold the edge on the run plays and not take snaps away form Burns/younger ones?

Whose high signing bonus? Bradberry? He has a 1.2M cap hit total. 270k is prorated signing bonus. You really don’t have a clue do you. You’re just making this up as you go.

And there’s about 30M in much more sensible cuts than Addison coming next year. So that 20M will be much different then.

He may. He may not. But he’s been that guy for three straight years and I’m not cutting him because he MIGHT regress so I can sign a player I can sign anyway, anytime I want. And there another side of the defense. Neither one has to play On the right side only.

If bradberry signed a new deal a portion of his signing bonus could hit this year. The amount needed could be more than 7 million in space. That what normally happens, unless the wording is different. Market is insane and Bradberry could get a huge deal.

Poe should be cut next year adding a few million, but thats still awful low for needing 25 players.

Thats fair. I would choose Bradberry if it came down to it. They moved on form TD, mario wouldnt be that hard with Burns.
