Andrew Luck retiring from NFL

Felt horrible for him leaving the field.  It's stuff like that that makes me hate social media...  no explanation aside from "mentally worn down and checked out," with no context or mention of the constant medical issues that led him to that decision.

I've always had some sort of unspoken beef with Luck after avoiding coming out in the draft that year we would've taken him, bc it felt like we got Kobe'd all over again...  but, then we got Cam, and I didn't care anymore...  but, he has always seemed to be an outstanding player and human being, so seeing him go through that in real-time was tough.  I wish the best for him moving forward and a return to full health.

$70 million decision. Has to pay back $12 million in signing bonus money and misses out on $58 million in future money

Colts told Luck not to sweat paying back any of the signing bonus money or roster bonus money -- $24.8 million in total.

Pretty classy move by the owner Mr. Irsay.

There's a phrase you don't hear often.

I'm still as shocked by this story as anybody, but the more I read about the health problems he was having, I can't really argue with the decision.

To those upset about the timing, you have to understand then it's not like this was planned. Luck went into this offseason expecting to play out the year yeah, and then got hurt...again. I'm pretty sure all of us have been in a situation where what we intended to happen didn't because of unforeseen circumstances. That's pretty much the case here.

Indications are that he may well have been headed for injured reserve and another year of rehab so it's not like he was going to be contributing that much anyway. that also would have meant that the Colts would have been paying another year's salary with only future potential to gain for it.

It's a shame, but after just short of fifty years watching football, I remember way more careers that didn't have happy endings than ones that did.

Given the way the Colts screwed him it's very likely Luck also regrets going back to school for 1 more year....
