If we're looking to keep 3 QBs on the 53 man roster...

Only problem with signing Kaep football wise is he has been out of the league for 2+ years. It’s fuging hard getting back into the swing of things after a regular offseason let alone 2 years. That being said he’s probably still better than Allen and Grier combined right now.

Keep Grier

Trade for Cardale Jones

Grier and Allen are pretty mich the same player.  Same size, same athlete, same arm, same arm strength, etc.  Just Grier, the rookie, is a year older

Jones- big body, athlete, strong arm.  Gives something the QB coaches can work with to mold.  He's had a solid preseason thus far

Gilbert looked really good last Saturday against the Colts.

I doubt the Browns cut him. We’d have to trade for him.

It’s too bad Mariota can’t be counted on to play 16 or even play good or I’d say trade for Tannehill but they ain’t letting him go. He’s looked great this preseason

......what?

Last season Marty Hurney, our GM, didn't lift a finger to address the backup QB position.  Our starting QB, closing in on 30, with more miles and hits on his body than any other QB in the league, also coming off shoulder "issues", with a team full of beloved Panther veterans, we chose to roll into the season with nobodies behind Cam Newton.

We should have had a backup plan in the case that Cam couldn't finish the season.  We didn't, it was a mistake.

There is no back up QB in the NFL that could take over after Cam goes down and be worth it.  Especially last year.

True, best to think this way than actually do your job and at the very least have a backup with some game experience under his belt.

I too like the head in the sand approach.

Ok.  Lets play this game.

What back up should we have targeted?

What back up would be worth giving up Burns over?

If our QB1 goes down, I don't want to get 2-3 more wins and miss the playoffs.  I'd rather just get a higher draft pick.

The Burns question doesn't matter.  The GM's job is to field the very best team possible.  We didn't do that last season.  The Panthers knew that Cam wasn't right, hadn't been in a while, but chose not to back him up with a single QB that had started even 1 professional football game.

As to who I would have brought in?  Tyrod or Chase Daniel.  Had we not been overpaying for a Kicker, we could easily have had a capable backup to Cam Newton, and possibly made the playoffs while sending Kalil, Peppers, and Davis out on a high note.

This year, we just decided to grab a QB in the 3rd from known QBU West Virginia.

not sure if cam going down will save rivera at this point or not.   he's gonna need some sort of excuse again to keep his job.  addressing it at this point has probably more to do with what ron and marty decide gives them the best chance to be back next year - if cam gets hurt.  and if cam gets hurt, like last year, those boys won't last a game before they go down too.

The issue is Kaep won't play for back up QB salary.  He gains more through "prestige" of being the alleged blackballed QB.

Not sure why this isn't addressed more. It's been documented multiple times that Kap has turned down offers.

Said it before, I'd love to have him as a backup, but I'm not paying a backup QB more than 5 million per year.
