Good. Second year in the system, he should be fine without game reps beforehand. Plus his rust wasn't the issue, the O line was. (He may have gotten antsy on one play).

Defense needs to come out ready to dominant in case the O starts out slow.

It doesn't matter what you are doing or how experienced you are, practice is important. I liken it to being in a band. Sure, a band can go play a gig without rehearsing, especially if everyone has played the songs before, but the show just isn't as good as if you practiced. The Panthers are going up against the reigning conference champions in Week 1 and their QB might not practice again until that game.

Can we for once just be cautious and sit him in a game where he's likely going to be running for his life often?

we can't. rams will tell us way too much about this team this season. if we can't win that one, we can expect a pretty stinking mediocre year. the rams will be as tough as it gets until the end of the year when we face the saints a couple times.

preseason....absolutely hold him out. I've hated preseason for years. that and the probowl game. games that have no bearing on the only part of the season that matters. meaningless games with opponents who don't have your best interest at heart. it's too big of a risk..

but during the season...you need to see what you're made of and you have to do everything you can to work for that final record. make the most of every opportunity while you have a shot. if you worry about an opponent week one, that's understandable, but you can't hide because you may have to play them again later in the playoffs and you won't be able to hide then. you come out and you throat punch them and give them everything you got because that will tell a lot about your identity going forward. you go in to win and you don't play scared. the good thing is now the team and the OL knows the OL sucks and has a lot to prepare for. the team also knows that they have to work around a sucky OL...yet again. so hopefully they won't waste time dropping back in the pocket. the solution is to come out quick and get that ball out before the pass rush can make their way past the paper bag OL. screw going downfield. let the ball carriers work their magic in yards after contact and just go quick and get it to them.

First game of the season hardly tells what a team is going to be like. Teams are still figuring their poo out.

Cam has a terrible oline and tries to constantly scramble and make things happen, resulting in him holding the ball to long.

Again McCaffery will have a 1000 catches and a 1000 reps because the oline and wr are sub par.

The offense will be quick short throw or throw ball away/or run . Sounds crazy but its true.

Your conclusion does not follow the premise, thus both are invalid.

Cam holds the ball too long, therefor he scrambles.

What im trying to say is while he is scrambling to make a play he is holding the ball behind the line of scrimmage. Cam should give up on these plays quicker and just throw it away, I mean deep down inside he know his oline is sub par.

He is too fragile now to take a beating like that now.

Those days are over. I been said this. Cam will have to become a pocket passer similar to what Randall Cunningham did with the Vikings.(he has already showed he can do it, just needs to be consistent)

Get the ball out quick or throw ball away should be Cam mindset 90 percent of the time.

So if he falls down here, he takes a sack, dude falls on his shoulder. He scrambles around, if one extra guy is blocked he is free to look down field and throw away if needed.

The scramble drill, in the pocket, on this particular play is of no consequence. It wasn't because he was looking for a place to run, he was simply trying to make room to read the field.

And again, your premise and conclusion don't line up. He is holding the ball behind the line of scrimmage, therefor he is scrambling. He scrambles because either he misses his read or his options aren't open. I think it's a mix of both. But he doesn't scramble when he could otherwise just throw the ball.
