I believe they'll work it out somehow as negotiations are till ongoing and this is too large of an enterprise to fug with. But if anyone can tank a franchise it's Sony.

this

this is not the end of these negotiations

this was disney releasing that this is where things are currently so fans can backlash against sony for not leaving spider-man where he belongs.  you don't become the corporate monster that is disney without knowing how to seal a deal

Sony just saying, "Nope.  You guys get 5% of the first day's take and that's it"

They'll have to reboot the property if the pull out of the MCU altogether.  Too much of the storyline invested in the Stark legacy to work around it.

To be fair, Disney wanted to go from 5% to 50%.     That is kind of crazy but like any negotiation maybe they'll agree on something like 30/70 split.    Disney seems to have the public perception of being the good guys at least, that'll help them but both sides here are being greedy.

And I would agree with that if Sony didn't do a counter offer.  Instead, they just left the table, altogether.  And you didn't really quote me correctly.  That's not 5% of the take.  That's 5% from the take on the first day of release.  That's a pretty s#% deal for an organization that took a franchise that you killed twice and made it the biggest moneymaker in your company's history.

I agree 5% is super low.     I think there's enough money to be made for both here.    Backlash has been high so that's good.

I very much agree.  They would be monumentally stupid not to work out some kind of deal.  30/70 would be a reasonable landing spot, so we're in agreement on that front as well.

I swear to god if Sony fugs this up...

It makes too much sense for both parties to keep Spidey in the MCU. Sony has proven they don't know what the f they're doing and MCU has proven the opposite.

Disney playing hardball but they will budge on the 50%

Disney just needs to flop their dick on the table and buy Sony to continue their world domination.

Hulu, ESPN, Disney, and Sony properties/bundles preloaded on the PS5 to overtake cable and satellite boxes? Sold

I don't think Sony would agree to even a hostile take over from Disney, and I imagine Japan would not be willing to sell off their most valuable brand to an American company.

But I do think that Disney and Sony will work it out because there's too much money to make.  I think that Sony needs to realize that they need Marvel a lot more than Marvel needs Sony.  Marvel will continue to put out billion dollar movies, and Disney+ will make TONS of money.  Sony Pictures needs to be careful what they do with their most valuable IP.

There is a really great story there for Spider-Man, and a rich world of other threads to pull from to walk away.

Disney is the draw though...people are coming to see spider-man because of the MCU
