We had 4 picks in the first 3 rounds...

I don't think it's fair to judge this draft class for at least 2 full seasons. It would be unrealistic to think the 1-3rd round picks would be day 1 starters every year.

It would make more sense to evaluate and scrutinize the performance of Ian Thomas, Rashaan Gaulden, Marquis Haynes, Donte Jackson, and DJ Moore.

Exactly... and that looks like a damn good draft class.  Every one of those guys could be solid contributors for this team this year.

I know some people want to hate Hurney so bad, but he has done a good job since coming back.  That's the truth.

It's also the truth that him and Rivera will both probably be gone absent a trip to the playoffs.

The new Huddle. Where every fan is a Madden expert and a lifelong arm chair GM, Scout and HC.

They can instantly determine who is good and who is bad by watching a 30 second clip of a player.

there is nothing new about any of that.   you just forgot over the summer

and got one starter out of it lol. Not calling Little and Grier busts just yet but that’s hilariously on brand there, Marty.

It’s rare to get more than 1  immediate starter out of a draft class unless you have multiple first round picks.  That only happens when you’re drafting out of desperation to fill holes you couldn’t address before the draft and you throw them to the wolves. It’s also highly dependent on the positions you draft too. If you wanted a 2nd round LT and a 3rd round QB to start then you have a terrible team that will continue to be terrible.

Grier was a comp 3rd which is basically an early 4th. If he was drafted a few picks later early in the 4th no one would care that he is our backup. Burns and Little will be solid at two of the most important positions not named quarterback.

This is actually a great point.  People who are looking at Grier as a 3rd are doing it wrong.  Before the NFL got crazy with all the compensatory picks, Grier would have been a 4th round QB.  Even as the 1st pick in the 4th round, he should be looked at the way we look at Marquis Haynes or Christian Miller.

If you're in a position where you're expecting a couple 4th round picks to start, you are probably screwed.

First rounder, you basically expect him to start or at least be a major part of what you're doing on that side of the ball.

2nd rounder, if you get an immediate starter...cool. But you go in with the expectation that this will probably be more of a developmental player who will be a starter in the near future and will work to get involved heavily in the present.

The further down you go, the less likely it is that they will be a starter. This is the way it should be and is for the vast majority of teams. You get a good immediate starter from the later rounds?you got lucky.

I'm still cross-eyed over the trade up for Greg Little and begrudgingly expected Grier, but Burns is looking like the real deal while Godwin and Scarlett are both looking like possible late round gems. Christian Miller is developing, as should be expected of a 4th rounder. It's way too early to put the fork in this draft, and this is coming from somebody that has extremely low expectations of Hurney.

Look at his draft last year: DJ Moore & Donte Jackson are impact starters. Haynes, Smith & Carter Jr are looking like quality depth while Ian Thomas and Rashaan Gaulden are being groomed for eventual starting roles.

I still think that Hurney values speed & athletes over football players, and I think that when he falls in love with a player or players he makes stupid moves that don't pan out. The man has looked solid though since he's been back. The Little pick still concerns me, but if he turns out to be the franchise LT then he looks like the smartest man in the room rather than "same ole Hurney and his 2nd rounders..."

No...what is hilarious is people trying to make that conclusion and any other conclusion after 2 preseason games.

We just won’t have any of that logic in here...you know the Huddle rules.

Will Grier was a bad pick. If Cam is hurt again we pick at the top/middle of the draft next year and likely taking a QB with the teams first pick.

What would be the point of Grier?

Grier is a depth pick for this year.  If Cam and Allen get injured, due to OL not being good as was last year, we have another QB who was in the system and more or less ready to go.  This is the only way I can justify it to myself because I was not a fan of the pick.
