We had 4 picks in the first 3 rounds...

There was absolutely know way Grier was going to be starter quality in year one. Even obviously less of a chance he actually would start for us. Little would have been a nice surprise but a 2nd rd OT shouldn’t be a starter unless the incumbent REALLY sucks. Hopefully ours doesn’t.

Its way way way to early to know how many of these guys can start.

That being said, if Godwin is our punt returner, does he count as a starter?

I like Godwin for development (practice squad), but I want Ross for PR duties and the last WR spot.  If something happened to Samuel, that's the guy which most closely mimics his skill set.  If anything ditch Smith and keep Godwin.  That's a win-win scenario.  My ideal lineup would be DJ, Samuel, Wright/Hogan (equal capabilites) Ross and Godwin.

Name me a playoff team that drafted 4 starters in this draft.

(If Cam's shoulder didn't poo the bed we were on track to make the playoffs)

Sony Michel is the only player from the Patriots 2018 draft that actually played last season and he only played 13 games. They won the Superbowl.

You use the draft to protect your future so your team doesn't get destroyed by the salary cap. If you are relying on the draft for starters, chances are your team isn't very good.

Burns may not be a ‘starter’ but I expect he’ll have a significant impact as if he was. In my eyes he’s by far our most important edge rusher, even this year.

And by the way you gonna be at the pats game Thursday?

Sure. But he’s not a starter.

Yeah I’ll be there. 134 row 5. Got a room in Foxborough so I dont have to do that drive back to the city so late.

Recall that if you evaluated our first 3 picks in the 2017 draft at the end of that season you'd have:

1. McCaffrey who couldn't even wrestle the starting rb spot from a past-his-prime JStew and was pegged as someone who was unsuited to being a 3 down back.

2. Samuel who barely saw the field and when he did, looked like a gimmicky player without an NFL position.

3. Moton who despite our line not exactly lighting the world on fire, didn't sniff the field as a 2nd round pick.

And that was at the END of their rookie year. We've played 2 PRESEASON games. Are you kidding me?

The players that went at our original spots-

16 Burns

47 Marquise Blair S

77 Chase Winovich DE/LB

100 Grier

I agree with the crowd that says theyre only rookies in their first preseason wait.

But............. man, loved the Burns pick but never liked Little.  Hated the trade up.  He's a good kid and hope he turns out, but sucks we wasted those 2 picks on a project when.......... the guy I was lobbying for who went 4 picks afte, has looked to have already become the best OL on Denvers starting lineup in Dalton Risner.  Some Broncos fans already claiming he's a future probowler.

And with GVR graded out as one of the worst starting interior OL in the league last year.

Wouldve been nice to grab Risner instead of guy who wont even see the field this year.

Chase Winovich, the guy who was picked at our 3rd pick.  Was a guy several of us said we should strongly consider in the 2nd, in the 3rd take it and run.  He has been probably the most impressive rookie in the entire NFL thus far.

And wouldve had of locked as one of the best edge duos in the NFL for the next 4 years

Also on top.  While we've had a Glaring hole at Safety.  This was said to be a deep safety class.  Had we packaged our 3rds, it wouldve put around where Juan Thornhill was picked.  Thornhill has been the most impressive defensive play on the Chiefs roster in camp, has already locked down the starter job and led them in ints in camp.

We had options, it looks now Hurney pulled a Hurney 1.0 crushing the 1st and missed on 2nd-3rd.  But its still esrly
