We had 4 picks in the first 3 rounds...

Hard to analyze a draft before the players have played a meaningful game...

Also, if we didn't get a deal with Daryl Williams returning Greg Little would be starting day 1 no questions asked. That would have been a train-wreck. Just because you start doesn't make you the right pick. DJ Moore is, by all accounts, about to blow up and he was buried on the depth chart last year.

I don’t think we got any starters out of it.

But it seems more like it’s because of solid depth.

Burns may not be a ‘starter’ but I expect he’ll have a significant impact as if he was. In my eyes he’s by far our most important edge rusher, even this year.

And by the way you gonna be at the pats game Thursday?

Yeah that's a good problem to have?

IMO Burns will see enough time in the rotation to be a "starter"...but you'd pretty much always be happy with your 2nd round OT not starting their rookie year or right away, and your 3rd round QB being the backup he is for a few years. The traded pick hurts, but it's worth it should Little work out as an average to better starter down the line.

I think it’s OK to separate what we see now versus what we may see six months from now.

But it’s certainly OK to report what we see now.

There’s no need to sugarcoat if it seems bad, and there’s need no give up hope if it seems bad. It’s preseason, and right now, it ain’t great (Grier, Little).

It could get better. It could stay the same. It could get worse.

I don’t think you’ve got anything but a great football player with Brian Burns. I don’t buy that he can’t be more than “rotational”.

But again, time will tell.

Typically the only way a team goes into the preseason with 4 starters out of their first 4 draft picks is if they drafted for need and have zero quality depth at those positions.

Burns has loads of talent, and we had a huge void in the pass rush, he was a starter from day 1. Hard to tell with Little until he gets more reps. We entered the draft needing talented depth at LT, and that's what we got in the time being. Grier it's not pretty but it becomes a question of how he looks down the line. If he can put together a few nice drives the rest of preseason at least he has something positive to build on. His struggles looked mainly due to uneasiness in the pocket, if he could settle in he has the arm to make plays.

It will take 2-3 years to see how this group shakes out, but I was not a fan of the class.  No shock, I'm left shaking my head after every draft.  I get stoked for the draft each year and it never goes the way I would like it to.  I called both the Burns and Grier picks, not because I liked them, but because the team did such a poor job disguising their utter infatuation with them.  It takes a few years to honestly evaluate drafts though because teams hate giving up on players they drafted even if they struggle by either bury under-performing players on the 53 or at least putting them on the practice squad before ultimately cutting bait if it's a lost cause.

There are a few former Panthers draftees that I think are on the bubble this camp.

I hated the draft picks,.. draft day was the biggest pisser in years for me,..

However it takes at least a season to see what you have, 3 to know how much they could grow,..

so after a couple of preseason games. We have no clue.
