New defensive scheme will take time to gel

Most people were saying it will take 2 years to shift personnel to transition to a 3-4.  Hurney shortened it by focusing much of the draft and free agency on getting folks for the new scheme.  But who thought they would have it down pat in their first action together?  How long should we need to build chemistry and get everyone on the same page? And who thought it would gel without Luke or Shaq.

Good post.  Everything centers around Luke and Shaq. The front DL is going to be good.  The DE/OLBs are going to be solid.  How often did Allen (Buff) go for TEs or target the player Boston was covering?  Early on, that was the weak spot.  If we get our #1 draft pick LBs involved, part of that problem is no longer a problem.

Luke is the captain of the defense and Shaq is his lieutenant. Without them we got gashed up the middle.

Plus we didn't game plan at all for them where they appeared to game plan for us picking on Carter for example.  So really the point was to give our starters reps together in order to get some film to evaluate.

The offense was looking at the line play and how we stood up to lots of blitzing. They used Allen and Grier as stand ins rather than risking Cam.

Special teams was a mixed bag as our kicker shined and the coverage teams struggled.

But we made progress and we have some film on the defensive line and secondary.
