Takeaways From the Game

It's true... I read the Rams hardly played any starters last preseason, and it obviously didn't affect their season.

I really think Ron wanted to evaluate the depth at 3 position groups: RB, ILB, and QB.  The RB's did great, the ILB's did bad, and the QB's were horrible.

You got to tip your hat to Buffalo, but it was still a disappointing performance, and one that hardly justified being broadcast.

I'm sure the joint practices this week were a lot more entertaining to watch

I think you are right. Our backup QBs and ILBs need all the experience they can get. It also gave Reid and Boston a chance to play together and our offensive line experience playing together. All of these things are not fun to watch, but desperately needed. Did anyone catch how Little played? He is another that needs experience. Williams is questionable at LT and has a high chance of getting injured again...

This was WITH Luke in.  And you never once hear our beatwriters mention it because they like to tell the positives. Think this stems further back than just Carter Jr etc.  And more of coaching/playcalling

I hope they can address this before the start of the season or it's going to be a long year, the Bears were picking on the ILB last week too.

It's not surprising we did so poorly against Buffalo.  They are trying to show that they are going to be a force in the AFC East.  They had 2 days of everything we had to prepare.

This is the part of joint practices I don't like.

Forget this game.

Game 1 when it counts you'll see the real Panthers..... Who will be much better.

I actually brought this up in the all-pro earlier this week.

Again I like to hear from both side during these joint practices to get a real feeling of whats going on.

Bills beat writers were tweeting out this week, Cole Beasley ect was having their way with us including Josh Allen Starting out 11-13 the last practice.

Well the goal for these joint practices is to get better so hopefully we see where our weaknesses are. I believe our D is in a learning phase so they may have ups and downs.

If this was real game they could easily put Jackson on Beasley and shut him down. My biggest concern with Ron is the soft zone. You must play press man coverage. 3rd and 5, dumping off to Beasley for a 1st down is too easy. Its been a common problem under Ron his entire tenure. You can't get to the QB if the ball comes out fast enough. You must jam the receivers to make the QB make tighter throws and to hold it for a little bit. Every 3rd down the receivers should be getting pressed period. Its frustrating to see this type of play year after year.

I'd like to add, idk what it is, but I've noticed several teams, us included, seem to be playing far less starters than we did in preseasons past and I think that obviously has an effect on the overall quality of the product.

Ya think? People are freaking out, and NONE of our good players are actually playing. It’s the preseason people. Who cares? They need to just get rid of this bullshit all together.

If our starters were playing the injury list would be piling up possibly and we wouldn't last long once season started and end up with a 4-12 or worse season. It was a good thing none of our players were injured so far and that is a plus.

I get your point, but there are two things I would  say---most vets are not pumped about getting work in week 2 and Cam was not who he was protecting.  All players are beaten--we just need to reduce the frequency.  I once had a coach tell me/us that every play is designed so that if every player on offense did his job to the fullest capacity, you would score.  A dive--TD.  A bomb--TD.  No difference.  You are not a bummer--this is lousy.  FWIW, I have always thought Turner is overrated.

Rivera needs to call plays again.  What happened over the break that caused him to think Washington was suddenly qualified?

A lot was execution.  Vernon Butler is perhaps the worst pick in recent Panther history.  Right up there with A. Ellison, S. Fua.
