should we talk about how grier looks like trash against vanilla 2nd string defenses

Recommended Posts

IF Kyle Allen had not looked the way he did in the Saints game. I wouldve been fine with the pick.

But Grier aint worth the pick, aeems like the Armanti reach for the local kid pick.  He isnt that mich different than Allen and upside is a about the same

That pick couldve gone somewhere that could help this team now

Still early but Dam I wanted Risner rd2 and then just package the 3rds to move up for Thornhill.

Now Risner looks like the best OL on Denvers roster and is turning heads.

And Thornhill is as well, already 1st team D leading the whole team in Ints in camp

But we got ourselves a project LT (who been a highly touted project sonce he's stepped foot at Ole Miss).  And a local kid QB who doesn't look good, not big upside.

I’m not ready to give up on him. He should be the 3rd string QB this season, hopefully never seeing the field, and we’ll see how he’s progressed next year.

He plays scared out there now, and his accuracy pass 5-10 yards is atrocious. He’s got a lot to work on these next 2 games, and during the season.

My biggest issue with the pick was it probably meant we wouldn't pick a QB in 2020 which is expected to be a better class overall. We could get a better player for about the same pick but we won't because we have to give Grier a couple of seasons to develop

Last year, falcons had an UDFA QB as their 3rd string QB, guy named Benkert. He was horrible, horrible as in he played the second half of all preseason games in 2018 and had no TDs and 4 picks.

This year, he was completely different, in complete command of the offense, making all the proper reads, making all the throws. He was 19/34 with 185 yards, a TD , no picks, with a couple of bad drops. Wasn't perfect by any means, but he was solid. Was thinking, Finally found that young back up QB. Then he got hurt and is on IR.

Point is, though, he transformed himself in to a good looking  QB over an offseason. No reason Grier can't do the same.

Grier looks like a typical WVU skill position player in the NFL. I can't even remember the last skill position player out of that program that translated to the NFL.

Steve Slaton was real nice for like 1 year

Yes and No

Even though its a stronger QB class, most get taken up before where we got Grier.

My problem with the pick is that we freaked out and drafted basis need only.  We already had a guy similar to Grier with the same upside and actually a year younger in Allen.  We freaked out on the basis that we needed a guy who could come right in and start had Cam go down this year.    So we drafted Allen 2.0.  It honestly, the same with Little freaking out needing a starter at LT now

Most teams in that scenario have the groom guy (Allen) then pick up a cheap vey minimum vet.

If we were That concerned, we couldve done This then draff a 2nd round QB in 2020 and replace Allen

Part of what I think is going on here is that we've had a long hiatus from football action, so now everyone is exploding with their "desire to be right about something on the internet" energy. Yes Grier has not looked good so far, but let's wait for more evidence before everyone starts banging pots and pans together screaming "I WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG! I WON THE INTERNET!" I was against drafting a QB in the later rounds, but we have no idea if Grier will end up being a serviceable backup in the long run.

And someone actually started a thread about trading for one of our QBs. We should be the one looking to trade for a backup.

And they signed a vet back up with out giving up a draft pick like said in the thread

i thought it was Derek Anderson but no matter who the back up is people believe he as trade value
