OnePantherPlace: Bills Week

Good write-up.  Big worry about that left side of the OL still as nothing has really changed from last season there (potentially an upgrade at center).  Will have to see how they slide protections to offer help come the regular season.

Confirms almost all sources that are saying Allen leads the backup QB race and Elliott has run been running away with the small nickel spot too.

Dude you have been great this whole camp, not sure you've gotten enough praise for your coverage.

I appreciate the honesty about everything, specifically the line. Too often we start drinking the Kool aide and don't look at things objectively as fans of the team.

Gun to your head, are ayou worried about the left side of the line? Why haven't they played Moton at LT if Williams is a better fit at RT? Moton seemed to fair well there last year in his limited time.

Hey, thanks man. Very kind of you to say that.

I’ve pondered the idea of 72 playing left tackle. But he is an absolute rock at RT. Even more so than Williams. With all the misdirection this offense runs, he’s a valuable piece at right tackle.

I think Williams will settle in. He’s an all pro caliber player, just getting his legs back from last year I think. I am concerned about 74. Maybe a good year of coaching with Matsko will get that situation on track.

Then again, the team’s digital team hyped Little up on draft day as “the answer” at left tackle to protect Cam’s blindside. One reason why you should never rely on the team for an objective perspective on things.

If your future left tackle for the next 10 years is not being drafted in the top 30, he’s probably not your future left tackle for the next 10 years. If he is, you wouldn’t know that until two or three years out. To celebrate that draft pick was absurd. To be fair, most fundamentally sound fans with a brain didn’t like that move. I didn’t hate it, but I was realistic about it. And it’s going just about as well as I thought it would.

And last point: maybe he’ll end up being great, even this season. It’s still just camp. But I’m just giving you what I see in the moment. Jerry Hughes kicked his ass all over the field. The tape don’t lie.

Oh I’m not making any sweeping judgments.

If it reads that way, I apologize. I’m pointing out some tendencies and results in real time. Right now, he’s not playing good football. I was the guy at the beginning of camp that said, (re: Burns and Little) “let’s give it two weeks and see where we’re at.”

Burns continued to do good things. I just didn’t see the growth in 74 in those two weeks. LT is likely the most exhausting position to learn in this offense. As I said, he could turn out to be great....even this season. John Matsko works wonders. Right now, he doesn’t look ready, and it’s not my job to pump him up.

And yes, it’s only been a few weeks. And a few short weeks from now, the defending NFC champs are coming for you and your quarterback. These things go by fast.

Moton was a 2nd round pick that didnt start for a year and he's being considered a fantastic RT. No point in making sweepong judgments in any direction at this moment

Well Moton was drafted to be the RT of the future Little was not. Marty even tried to trade up in the 1st for him. Clearly the panthers are high on him.

The jury is still out on Little. There has been LT who played poorly their first few years and then turned the corner, but Im not high on Little I think between him being a highly touted prospect coming out of high school and then not living up to that hype and him graded out poorly athletically rises huge flags for me.

I think the biggest thing that concern me the most is his lack of function strength. To me it's LT or bust with him. I don't know what other position he can truly succeed at if its not the LT position.

Here’s our perspective on the week that was, and the game tonight.

"It’s a schematic approach worth considering when facing this offense. Not that Samuel and Moore are incapable of making big plays–quite the contrary. But McCaffrey and Olsen are the matchup cogs that make the passing game go. If you can take those two guys away and put them out of their comfort zone, you’ve got a fair chance on defense to win."

Conceivably, the Panthers could move McCaffrey to the slot and bring in CAP, Scarlett, or whomever they decide to keep? If they want the best route runner on the team getting the ball, while maintaining their ability to deliver the ball to the safety valve, it would seem ideal to have some situational packages devised where CMC isn't the only RB on the field. Perhaps this is where Armah's role as H-Back, Halfback, TE, comes in? They mentioned numerous times last broadcast how the coaching staff wanted to see what Armah could do when lined up as a running back.

My assumption of this is that the Panthers want to keep him on the field as a blocker, H-back, and TE option if they need to go hurry up. This would allow movement of Christian to the slot or outside while moving DJ, Samuel, or Olsen to the slot while maintaining defensive integrity in respect to the run. CMC can also block DB's should the Panthers decide to run?

Maybe I play too much Madden? (or did in a past life?) Maybe I should send this idea in to the coaching staff?

This truly had the feeling of an ass kicking all week from my perspective. I had no doubt Cam would be sitting tonight. And now this gets interesting next week, going back to New England against an attacking defense. He got hurt there a few years ago in the preseason.

He did. That’s one lingered with him for a long time though. He’s talked about it.

I don’t know, I don’t know a lot of stuff, but I knew Buffalo was probably gonna to whip Carolina’s ass tonight. They did all week.

    • They said the same thing about Beyonce. If you ask me they just don't want black people singing their kind of music.
    • When I first listened to the song I knew it was a white guy. Then when I saw it was a black guy I was totally shocked. Sounds like a regular country song with a little bit more pop.   Good song, they just overdue at times especially at these food restaurants.
    • If it was sung by Hootie it would be "real country". The Nashville mafia thinks he's another Lil Nas X just trying to make a joke out of their genre to make a buck. Joke is on them though. No one could make a bigger joke out of it than they have.
