I see both sides  of the argument--Stbugs wants to build a young nucleus so we can focus on other spots---having a 26-year old neophyte creates a very sharp, short learning curve.

Here  is another view:  If you are developing a 26-year old by giving him the treatment for a twenty-two year old, you are cutting the return on the investment.  But if y'all recall, Addison had played for about 4 teams before we signed him at about the same age and he was developmental then as well.  We have been happy with him for about 5 years and it was worth the investment.

If we get 5 years out of Haynes moving forward and he plays at a fairly high level, we should do it.  But not every situation ends as well as the Addison situation did.

Josh Norman was 24 /25 his rookie season.  We developed him for 2-3 years before he had a breakout year at 28/29--and managed to get a huge contract and took off.  That was not a good return on the investment, but nobody here would question it.

We're getting waaay ahead of ourselves here. The guy had 1 good, pre-season game and a nice camp. It looks like he could be a solid rotational piece this year in  3-4, and hopefully can develop into a replacement for Irving. We got 3 years left on his rookie contract, so let's not worry about his next one yet.

The word potential was used in the introduction.  We do analyze that. I agree with you, but if he comes around...

Man, it’s amazing how little comprehension there is around here. He’s going to get his first NFL sack and turn 26 a couple months after. If you don’t realize that that limits the upside he has then there’s not much I can do to explain it. It’s not to say he can’t possibly be a solid part of the team but I does make me worry about him ever getting past just being a pass rush specialist and not a full timer. Addison and Irvin are very possibly not here next year and we may need to go 3-4 DE/NT heavy in the next draft. Short and Poe get almost $30M next year and McCoy is on a one year deal as well. If Haynes was Donte’s or DJ’s age then I’d be optimistic that he could grow more and compete with Miller to be the future starter outside.

It doesnt limit upside  It limits career length.

No knock on you OP. My comment was on the direction of the thread in general. There's a lot of discussion about Haynes next contract when he has 3 more years of his rookie deal. I certainly hope it's becomes an issue!

It is amazing how quickly these things become runaway trains!

Lol these are the kinds of people I’m talking about who don’t have the chops to debate on anything substantive and just defer to the “blind homer” argument. I guess the only things to trigger him enough to show his face around here are:

1) me

2) any anti-Gettleman sentiments

Wow. So you really are sticking to the same old BS? It usually takes you a couple posts to use the Gettleman deflection. What exactly does he have to do with any of this? Nothing. Just avoiding the issue and throwing an crap you can to get off topic. It seems I’m not the only poster who feels that way. What are their excuses and bias? Is it DG, you, JR, D-Lo....etc....?

And considering the only thing I’ve really posted recently about is Gettlemans worst move. So how am I defending him now? It’s always someone’s agenda and never the real issue with you.  What are all these “baseless” attacks that are bothering you(and yours) so much?
