I’ll be honest, you just got me a little more disappointed in him knowing now that he turns 26 this year. That makes me worry that he’ll always have an issue against the run. I had tempered my enthusiasm just because of last year.

Why factor in age rather than experience? Does your coachability decline in your mid to late twenties or something? Regardless of his age, he’s still a 2nd-year player and has a lot more developing left to do.

Like I already alluded to, Addison improved his run defense tremendously in his late 20s/early 30s.

It’s almost like you’re disappointed because you want to be disappointed.

No I don’t think it’s that.  He was trying to point out that most athletes peak between 25-28 years old.

Lol, I’ve got him on ignore so I had no idea he replied. You are correct. Kind of like Short who peaked at a point where his second deal started just shy of 30 and we’re already think he’s not worth his first non-rookie deal. Addison is the exception that proves the rule. How many guys get their first big sack season at 29? We’re about to start talking about Addison’s FA and getting rid of him since he’s 32 and his 2nd contract was only 3 years long. He’s started only 2 years where wasn’t just a pass rusher and this may be his last year with us.

Yep, I’m just trying to be disappointed. SMH, if I’m not 100% sold on a guy now that I know his first sack will come in the season he turns 26. So glad he’s on ignore. Waste of time to explain why I’m more worried because I thought he was 22 or 23 at this point. Curtis Samuel was drafted a year before and is 3 years younger. Donte and DJ were the same draft and are 2 and 4 years younger. CAP was the same age as Haynes in his rookie year and we all remarked how old he was as a rookie and how much more limited his upside was because he was so much older in college. Yep, not thinking objectively at his age not being a positive. I just want to be disappointed.

Age was one of the major reasons I wanted Moore over Ridley. DJ was 3 years younger. And Ridley had already peaked. Moore had/has a ton of upside.

And welcome to the ignore club? LOL. Can’t say anything against the brand.

I knew he replied to me based on the post but I use my ignore list. Makes threads much easier to read.

I was told it was my fault....mainly for not  thinking every player becomes better the minute he becomes a Panther. I

Look at me bringing snowflakes together :shades: such a beautiful sight to behold.

@Black&BlueBubba stbugs constantly looks for anything that he thinks reaffirms his uninformed opinions. I don’t think athleticism has as strong of a correlation with something like “performance against the run”, rather than things like strength/weight (I assure you he can still gain weight and strength in his 2nd season in the NFL at 26 years old), technique, knowledge of gap assignments, etc. Him being 26 and at his athletic prime (as you mentioned) does not impede his ability to develop in any of those areas I mentioned above.

Lol these are the kinds of people I’m talking about who don’t have the chops to debate on anything substantive and just defer to the “blind homer” argument. I guess the only things to trigger him enough to show his face around here are:

1) me

2) any anti-Gettleman sentiments

gat damn

if we get a lead, we are going to have a handful of talented, FAST pass rushers to go after the QB

Speed Kills. you best believe if we get to the QB in a hurry, that QB will feel more jumpy and will maybe force a bad decision even if we dont actually get there in time

I expect him to have a role and an impact. I don't feel he is starter material, but he doesn't need to be at this point.

Nope, with Irvin and Mario here and Burns drafted in the 1st we honestly don't need him to be any higher than 4th on the edge rusher depth chart. But honestly, if he isn't ready for a major role next season then we probably need to make another major investment in an edge rusher.

No disagreement from me.

He was like 24 when we drafted him.  However, he only played 2 years (I am fairly sure) of college ball--he could be learning.  If we get 3-4 years out of him, that is great.

I am looking at it this way--with a guy like Haynes at 27, 28, etc. we can develop draft picks instead of bringing in expensive free agents.  If Haynes, Burns are decent this year and Miller steps up at some point  over the next year or two, we could add a DE in a year or two and never miss Haynes when he ages out.

At 26 in the right system, he could be a 5-sack guy getting 25% of the snaps--that would be fine with me.

Man, it’s amazing how little comprehension there is around here. He’s going to get his first NFL sack and turn 26 a couple months after. If you don’t realize that that limits the upside he has then there’s not much I can do to explain it. It’s not to say he can’t possibly be a solid part of the team but I does make me worry about him ever getting past just being a pass rush specialist and not a full timer. Addison and Irvin are very possibly not here next year and we may need to go 3-4 DE/NT heavy in the next draft. Short and Poe get almost $30M next year and McCoy is on a one year deal as well. If Haynes was Donte’s or DJ’s age then I’d be optimistic that he could grow more and compete with Miller to be the future starter outside.

Poe will be gone next year.  We will go get a NT in draft.
