The Worst Take You Will Read Today

I certainly don't expect much from the "experts" at USA Today, but this is lazy, uninformed, and just wrong on even the most objective level.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/fantasy/2019/08/14/fantasy-football-2019-all-bust-team-cam-newton/1958548001/

Gems from this high-point in journalistic endeavor:

  •  Fantasy football all-bust team: Carolina Panthers' passing game likely to disappoint
  • QB Cam Newton, Panthers: He's taking it easy during training camp after offseason shoulder surgery, but he comes with a grave risk of reinjury and has limited weapons around him.
  • WR D.J. Moore, Panthers: Superman's shoulder is still a concern (see above). There are no other receivers to take heat off of this de facto WR1.

I am way beyond expecting competent knowledge or analysis from most "national" writers at this point, but the amount of willful ignorance that goes into this is almost beyond belief...

Its funny because in the latest "power rankings"  (and yes.  I know.  power rankings after a single preseason game mean poo), Bleacher Report has the Panthers rated 2nd highest out of all NFC S teams.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2849062-nfl-power-rankings-patriots-overtake-saints-for-top-spot-in-br-rankings#slide19

So I wouldn't say we are *completely* under the radar in the national view.  Just clearly some national writers care less about doing their job than others.  The BR has the Panthers 14th, and while I personally see them as better I can at least see why the teams placed above are there and can admit its reasonable.

It's just sad really.  Not only did they fail to send anyone to Panthers camp to watch, they didn't even bother reading reports from camp filed by people who were actually there.  It makes you question just how accurate *ALL* their reporting is when this is what you get.

Ehh, it's about fantasy football. Honestly, haven't we already chewed the flavor out of that gum? FF sucked all the air out of the room for a few years there and once the novelty wore off, I just gave it up.

FF "journalists" are basically the FanFic writers of the sports world. Who cares anymore?

It's a completely different type of journalism but people are still getting butthurt about it. It'd be like a report talking about the gameplay mechanics of madden and how poorly the panthers perform and equating it to them trashing the actual players. It's a game, and in the context of FF as a game, there are inherent risks to playing/starting certain players on the Panthers. Just because a guy isn't a viable fantasy option doesn't mean he isn't a good player.

Having said all that, I don't agree with his take on the Panthers passing attack and feel like Cam is going to be a top 5 QB this year if he's healthy, CMC will be a top 5 RB, and Samuel and Moore have potential as both being in the top 20 WRs. Too many weapons this year for Cam to fail.

Who cares? ESPN just did 29 consecutive hours of Fantasy Football programming. They wouldn't do that if their numbers didn't show someone was watching.

Idk about cam being top 5. Definitely top 10. We will see how healthy we can stay this year.

His rushing TDs and yards make him a top 5 QB threat yearly in fantasy. The years he's been injured are the ones where he hasn't produced. If he's healthy, he's top 5.

I mean, this is USA Today we're talking about.  Their Fake News is not limited to just the politics section!
