That PSL money is gone. No way Tepper pays off PSL owners.  A new stadium is coming.  Tepper might give a discount to PSL owners for the new stadium but honestly I dont think the new stadium will be PSL'S. Will likely just be season tickets.

I agree you can't sell them now for even half what you paid for them. That actually isn't my point. My point is that there is nothing wrong with the current stadium. And I don't think Charlotte should be forced to putting up a ton of money to stroke his ego.  SC got the the practice facilities, golf course and medical facility for 120 million.  If that is what he wants for a new stadium fine but you and I know it will closer to 500 million or more when it isn't necessary. And that is my point.

Not going to lie, but that should have been a thought on your mind ten to fifteen years ago with psl’s. There’s a reason why the team is begging people to get them for the next 4 years before the stadium is going to be done

10 or 15 years ago the stadium was 15 years old and Richardson was fine with the stadium as it was. And he still would be. There was no reason to be worried until Tepper came in.

6 years ago the city signed a deal to fund payments for escalators, video boards etc to keep the team in the city. You think the stadium was good then? I understand your salty about losing the PSL if and when the new stadium is built, but in 4-5 years when a new one is done the old stadium will be 30 years old. Technology has changed a ton not just in the last 5 years, but over that time span. Most people want comfort vs a seat. Why pay thousands of dollars when you can buy a 4K tv that shows you a better view than currently the stadium does for 1/4 the price? Owners now have to “wow” fans at a stadium experience and frankly BoA doesn’t have anything special to it or memorable for fans to go “wow that was amazing”

Unless they are planning to move that rail road, I don't think a new stadium fits there

Tepper has been talking about getting high speed rail between here and Raleigh since he got here. Moving/upgrading the train tracks may actually be in the plans.

You don't have to move the rail, you only have to lower the rail.

Then reimagine the footprint.

@iBBB is right. Charlotte Pipe's land is weird to put a whole stadium on. It's conceivable that Tepper could buy up the land on the other side of 277 to build the new stadium, as it'd fit there. But the Pipe Shop land would be used for parking and fan experiences I think.

As for the railroad, I work for that railroad and I can assure you that there are no plans to move those tracks. That's our main NYC-NOLA artery. Lowering the rail is not an option either. The landscape right there doesn't lend itself to burying the rail in a tunnel, especially considering we have a junction with another major railroad and our yard literally a mile north of there. A mile is not far in railroad terms, FYI.

The HSR is actually a different story. Notice that freshly tilled ground and concrete structure south of the Pipe Shop? That's the new Amtrak servicing facility. It's completed, but hasnt been tied into our mainline yet. The city is building a new transit hub just north of the stadium that will combine Amtrak, light rail, city bus, Greyhound, and taxi services. There is already commuter rail service between Charlotte and Raleigh, but it's top speed on Norfolk Southern's trackage is only 80mph. True HSR is terribly expensive, but improving the right of way so that the commuter trains could reach 100 or even 120mph is within the realm of possibility. If this happens, the team could try to justify similar service between Charlotte and Greenville, SC and Charlotte and Columbia. I'm getting onto a different topic now, but that could trigger a rail boom in the region connecting the major cities, and as a railway worker, that would excite me.

What exactly will this new stadium have that can't be put into the old stadium at half the cost? Technology? Easy. The stadium is concrete that doesn't wear out in 30 years. You are talking enhancements I am talking basic structure and bones. Things like video boards, suite furnishings etc have been upgraded recently. All these so called enhancements can be added so again what is structurally wrong with a concrete stadium designed to last 100 years.  This isn't just about losing PSLs because honestly if they went to just season tickets I wouldnt buy them for the season and just pick the games and seat sections I wanted and I would still save money. Financially it makes no sense for the city and if he wants the Taj Mahal them let's him pay for it

More field level seating (Atlanta, Dallas) bigger club level seating, more “bars/club” areas, more club seats, better/bigger TVs, better audio, more seats, parking, flexibility for more indoor events (concerts etc), fan standing “rowdy sections”

Like it or not the Panthers have the 10th oldest stadium, with 3-4 of those being historical buildings (Green Bay, LA Rams, Bears, New Orleans). Saints just announced major renovations to the Superdome.Outside of those it’s the chiefs, Oakland (leaving for new one), bills, Miami (recently redone) and jags are older. We are the 4th newest team in the league with the 10th oldest stadium.

Lots of items in your list can be added and enhanced in the current stadium.  There’s plenty of space inside of it.   Also there are plans already being discussed or thought of to add party decks, field seats and other new options, etc.   The team sent out surveys recently to gauge interest and feedback which included images of what they would be like.  Finally, there is already a lot of club seats comparable to many of the newer stadiums.  With a very nice club section.   The concert and other event stuff I can see, but not many stadium concerts to begin with anymore and I’ve seen plenty in open stadiums.  The current stadium, despite its age is still very good, in a great location etc and can be made better.   Time will tell of course to see how it plays out.

I agree to an extent.

Owners are realizing that they need to make the stadium experience something amazing and different.

In 2019 you are able to get a better view and picture on your tv, better audio, multiple camera angles, fantasy updates, food delivered from any where, and it costs less than 2 games for 2 tickets during the regular season (depending on the market and game). The next generation is so use to instant gratification, instant access, they know that the only reason people go to games now is for the experience of being with 72,000 fans at once. Sooner rather than later they have to differentiate themselves, rather that comes in live bets (nba, nhl), fans experience (comfort, WiFi, price, food, etc), or access they can’t get from home.

I also knew about the surveys and those zones as I got an email for them and answered them. Honestly I thought of that as more of a gauge of what the fan will spend vs what he wants in the current stadium. I can’t see tepper addison standing zones, beer zones etc in the upper deck and eliminating those “25 year anniversary PSL’s” for only 3-4 years. They wouldn’t be selling those psl right now for dirt cheap if they were  going to destroy those seats

I paid a decent amount for tickets for the Thursday night game for my girlfriend and myself, but I also realize that I could have easily upgraded my home theatre system for the same price and had the comfort my home.

The one thing I worried about ihim was building a new dome and essentially negating 62000 PSLs.or around 250 million of money paid for the old stadium. Are you a PSL owner? I have 9000 I stand to lose . Pay me that and I am fine. Negate them and you can kiss.my ass. And I am not alone.  Wait until tickets double to pay for that new stadium. Then you will be bitching too.

...been saying i smell a PSL ***** comin with new stadium talk... how will he weather alienating 62K...We have a fickle fan base...hate to see the stadium leave down town...oh btw..fug soccer....Panthers cross the border i most likely wont see another live game... i like the experience of downtown.... to me it would be embarrassing on MNF and the announcer says: 'Live from Rock Hill'

They will sell PSLs for soccer and for the Panthers.  I for one would love for PSL owners to get reshuffled as majority PSL owners are not true fans but there just to make money of Panthers fans and then sell tickets to Steeler and New England fans.

Tickets would be too expensive for new stadium.  The market can't support it.  Maybe in 10 years, not 5.

You are missing the point... They will sell PSLs to new MLS team as well.  It will cover a big chuck of fee.  Tepper also wants to host concerts, shows and international games... something that Richardson never did.

MLS teams will play around 20 home games a year.
