2020 Draft: looking ahead

Just scratched pad some quick stuff on 2020 prospect

Looking ahead to 2020.

Last year was the year of the DL, Edge Rushers, and LBs

This year those position group isnt near what it was in 2019
But this year is ooozing with talent at CB and WRs. The QB class and OT class is stronger than the avg draft as well.

The 2 QBs that are lead of the pack are Herbert and Tua. Both, most people thought wouldve been the top QB in the last class had they been able or did come out. This QB class is Deep as well. Jake Fromm doesnt have the tools of those other guys but is talented. Reminds of Kirk Cousins. There is a QB in Washington that has all the tools and was the starter at UGA prior to a knee injury. Fromm stepped in and they never went back. But with that staff in Washington, this kid should be good. Costello at Stanford was highly ranked out of HS but quietly hasnt gotten the attention. He has the tools and a cannon.

The OT class is a strong one as well.
The kid at UGA is probably the best OT prospect to come out since Matthews in Atlanta. Others like Wirfs the RT at Iowa is a absolute freak and a stud. His LT isnt a slouch either, better than most all of the last class. Walker Little at Stanford is a Stud as well. Think of the Bama kid this year with the athletic ability of Andre Dillard.
The safety group is solidand way better up top than last year. The LSU safety looks to be the real deal, like Earl Thomas in his prime real deal. There is a Safety over at Alabama who reminds of Minkah Fitzpatrick but mainly olays Saftey and believe is a better athlete

Now onto the strength
This WR and CB class is like the Edge rusher class last year. STACKED.

The WRs main headliner is Jerry Jeudy who is the best WR to come out since Amari Cooper. Behind him is a kid at Oklahoma who reminds me a Lot Like OBJ, kid doesn't drop ANYTHING. But it not even just the hands that gives that comparison his size, athletic ability and route running give me that.

While Jerry Jeudy gets all the media attention, he isnt the highest upside Bama WR coming out. Henry Ruggs is a FREAK who posted a 4.25 at Bamas junior pro day. But its not just the speed like a John Ross. He has good hands and a solid route runner.
Tee Higgins is better than Mike Williams was coming out and he went top 10. Highins has the size speed combo and overall a good WR.
Laviska Shenault Jr is getting a TON of love. Kid reminds of DJ Moore size and athletically but is like Samuel was at Ohio State used all over.
KJ Hill at ohio state is a freak as well, a good route runner, and a Good Blocker
Collin Johnson is HUGE target, reminds of Kelvin Benjamin coming out.

The CBs
Jeff Okudah leads my board. Doesnt have all the Ints yet, but reminds a TON of Marshon Lattimore at the same point of their careers. Okudah has the size and length, expected to run in the 4.4s but lightening quick feet
Kristian Fulton, the next great CB from DBU is a Stud. He was the best CB on last years roster that included Greedy Williams.
Trevon Diggs (brother of Stephon) started out as a WR at Bama. But moved to DB. Athletically he is like his brother but is physical.
Bryce Hall, most expert's say wouldve been the top CB had he come out this past year. He has size, length, and ball skills. Kid is a true shutdown CB.
CJ Henderson is a speedster CB who is still atleast 6'0. Henderson has great instincts and some of the best ball skills out there.
paulson adebo is a Tall long Physical CB with great athletic Ability. His ball skills are among the top as well

Good write up.  However a lot of this could change with a few injuries and Jr College transfers.

It very well can just use Quinnen Williams as a example,  he was on no ones radar this time last year.

This is just a early look as well.

There are a lot of good players on the board and unlike you I actually think the top 3 edges are really good-like better than this year. Its just not as deep.

I was thinking about this the other day. Lets say panthers have a high pick. Unless CN has a career ending injury, we won't be drafting a new QB and Tua and Herbert will likely go high as is the fashion.

Knowing beforehand that this is an exercise in conjecture. Narrowing it down to these 4 on the likely false assumption that they were available at our pick who do you go after?

                                         OT- Andrew Thomas

                                         S- Grant Delpit

                                         WR- Jerry Jeudy

                                         Edge- Chase Young

Who do you take? Premium positions are obviously OT and EDGE but both drafted high in 2019. Would the sacking of RR and MH mean that Carolina might return to the well for a GUARANTEED foundation block? Jerry Jeudy sounds very special but we have a 1 year 1st round and 2 year 2nd round receiver. Then Delpit. I think he would be an awesome fit in our team but could this happen under RR or MH? We have been reluctant to draft safeties.

I would take Delpit, but if we are high enough to pick him we may see a complete reconfiguration of the roster anyway.

Id take Delpit out of those 4.  Kid is SPECIAL and FS is a huge need for us.

Then Andrew Thomas, kid is one of the best OTs ti come out the last few years.

We are already deep at WRs and Edge rushers.

Those 4 will be out of the question though.  So if we have a Bad year, I suspect we will be drafting around where we were this year

2 guys on D id like around there

1. AJ Epensa- shocked if he falls. He is a hulking big DE who can play DE in a 4-3 or 3-4 like Watt and Calias Campbell.  McCoy is only signed for 1 season and Epenesa couod fill that DE spot.

2. Xavier Mckinney- think a more athletic Minkah Fitzpatrick.  He can play Safety or CB.  Teams like his versatility to be able to come in and cover the slot if needed.  A Lot of teams look for that now (see Hurney taking a chance at converting Nickel CB Gaulden to FS)

I agree with your assessment but you have to wonder whether the Panthers would ever take a safety that high. I think Espeneza is completely interchangeable with Young as top talents likely to be taken in the top 10. History tells us QB-EDGE-OT are the most likely to be overvalued. Jeudy is considered so remarkable that the draft network believe he can go #1 even among this company. I think it's believable that Delpit could fall to Jamal Adams type range at #7.

If we look like we did last night or Cam is injured it's not beyond the realms of possibility. Especially with a new GM or coach. But then looking at last night do we need a game changer more at FS or LT?

I think Young is going to take the leap and separate himself from Epenesa.  Young really has bulked up has bend etc.  But he wont ever play 3-4DE.  4-3DE or 3-4OLB for him like Clowney or Myles Garrett

Id be shocked if Delpit falls like Adams.  He is a little better athlete.  Also Adams was a freaking stud in the box Safety.  Delpit is like that BUT is all over the field in coverage which you never saw in Adams.  Adams had 6 sacks and 5 ints in 3 seasons at LSU.  Delpit had 5 sacks, 5 ints just last year

FWIW LSU thinks so highly of him that they are letting him wear #7.  Which the last 2 players to wear that there were Honey Badger and Patrick Peterson

And I think H2.0 would draft a safety that high.  Especially a guy with the ability to cover at nickel.  The game has changed a Lot the last few years,  and that has become one of the more valuable positions on teams

It is obvious we need a LT More but your not going to reach on one if there is a game changer at FS which is also a Huge need.  I expect OT to be addressed this offseason though.  If Little continues to show nothing and the season goes like last night.   We COULD very well see them not resign Bradberry and use that money towards a LT (Bradberry, some say couod command around 13 mil a year type deal).  Rivera's Defenses have always been CB friendly here as youve seen guys star here then their gane drop off like Norman in Washington.  This CB class is LOADED and they could easily find a guy to plug into Bradberrys spot and use that 13 mil towards a vet OT (keeping Little on the backburner wishing he turns out)

Lets say we draft between 14-19. What QBs are on the table there, because that is what we will absolutely need.

A lot depends on Tua.

If Tua heals fine, Herbert will be be around or close to 14 but probably not down to 19
