I've got a strong feeling that Miller is going to get dinged up over the next few weeks, and in typical Hurney fashion, will be placed on IR.

The more I think about it, the more I think it is best for everyone involved.

I still have hopes for Miller long-term, but the emergence of Haynes along with Cox/ Obada means we are going to need another roster to keep someone we like or cut bait on someone who is much more ready to contribute this year vs. Miller.

Lol why does he have to be injured and why would Hurney IR Miller for no reason? 

He needs reps and to continue to grow. Just because you haven’t read headline articles about a 4th round pick, that does not mean he can’t contribute.

Hurney has made a habit of placing late-round draft picks and undrafted rookies on IR as a way to keep players who may not be ready to contribute/ have a clear path to the roster without exposing them to waiver claims... It's a gray area but I'm sure he's not the only one...

Corn Elder and Damiere Byrd in year's past come immediately to mind... I also remember Daeshon Hall having a minor injury during the year (and the team IR'ed him)

No way would he take that risk.. Miller was still rated high as a prospect .. Other teams will jump on this...  He still can be a special teamer..relax

I don't think he's getting IR'ed. He's just  not confident enough/thinking too much. Needs more time.

Make no mistake..every year a couple fringe players get IR'ed ...maybe simply coincidence though.

He had injury concerns going into the draft and that’s also why he was there for us in the 4th round. The guy is also pretty solid and I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a much better showing in later preseason games.

That's the point... if he goes to IR he stays with the team. Basically a redshirt year.

He would never be released and subject to waivers. This is kind of a loophole to keep Millet beyond this year while preserving a roster spot to someone else

Don’t underestimate Hurndog 2.0. He will make the best decision for the team...,his job depends on it. It’s been one preseason game.....we can all calm down until the 4th game is over with.

All GM’s did in years past.  But just remember he has to remain on the main 53 man roster to remain on teams IR.  Which means someone else would have to be cut.  It was made that way so people stop redshirting 10 guys in training camp.

Not the craziest idea I've ever heard. If it frees up a roster spot for a 6th wr like Godwin or promising dline depth like Obada and its not looking like Miller will ever see the field in year 1 anyway, kind of makes sense. Then when we lose Irvin and Addison next year, he slides in as needed depth with a year of practice under his belt. 

I suspect we would have room for all the aforementioned players but there will probably be at least a couple tough cuts and the only reason to keep Miller on the roster right now in light of all of our depth is to avoid him getting snagged by another team.

My biggest problem with this tactic is that it prevents these young guys from getting valuable practice reps when they are the ones that need it the most. When you go on IR you can still be in meetings but you aren't on the field getting a feel for the increased speed of the game.

Yeah, it didn't really work out well for Hall and Elder to sit their rookie year.
