Haynes & Burns

Also, Haynes still has a big problem with runs at him. He got tossed aside on the TD run right at him. Burns didn’t have enough snaps but from the preseason he definitely seems stronger and able to hold that edge on runs to him. I also think he’s a better pass rusher period.

Haynes problem on that TD was a totally coach-able issue.  He let the blocker get to his body instead of getting hands on the blocker and shedding.  Might have had his eyes in the wrong place, not sure.

Just saw the snap counts from last night.

Haynes - 41 snaps. 2 sacks. 3 tackles for a loss.

Burns - 10 snaps. 2 sacks.

DAMN Burns.

You beat me to it. I rifled thru the gamebook after lunch today. Saw that. 20% rate is sick

I was reading on the Panthers site a quote by Addison after the Bears game basically saying making the switch to the 3-4 biggest beneficiary has been Marques Haynes.  Most of us knew Haynes was a bad fit for a 4-3 end and was all but absent last season.  I wonder if the brass took him knowing a hybrid scheme was in the imminent future? Nobody in their right mind would have taken a 225 pound end for a 4-3 scheme.  I was completely baffled when Haynes was drafted to be completely honest, but seems to be working out for both sides utilizing the 3-4.

Kid has been putting in work but noone is talking about him

(Also looks like he's hit the gym to and gotten stronger/bigger)

He’s just got to figure out how to hold the edge on the run. If it’s 3rd and 5 and he’s out there, I audible to a draw on his side. Right now, it’s and insta 1st down and it’s going to be hard for him to see the field much if he can’t hold the edge.

Thus why he was an ill-fit as a 4-3 end...he can't hold the POA.  Hanyes was the guy who lost contain on the Bears TD run.  The Bear's player washed Marques inside and the RB a clear edge, then just had to beat the DBs to the endzone.

I have never used this term before for a OLB/DE. Burns is slippery and his movement is unique.

Like Moton said Haynes has taken a step(big) forward. Looks like he is ready for 3rd and long plays for sure.......now about those run plays.....
