Really cool offensive formation.

So not to give any teams info but a formation really caught my eye the other night at fan fest.  It included one of my favorites Armah.  He lined up as a fullback offset from Cam who was in the pistol set with CMC behind him .

Looks like this with Armah at F, Cam in shotgun at Q, and CMC setup deep at H.

X.         XXXXXX       X

                   Q   F

                   H

So the first play Cam handed it off to Armah up the middle.  There are some RPO components that can be added to this.

Second play Cam play fakes to Armah  looks at CMC who is running a route in the flat  and then from what I remember hit DJ doing a in route at about 10 yards.   If he wanted he could have hit CMC who was open as well.

I like that they utilized Armah as much as they did last night.  But they did last preseason and then you never saw him again. Hopefully the can utilize him in a formation like this to help out Williams and GVR in pass pro.  Cam would also have the option to simply hand it off to CMC and let him follow Armah through a hole.

Lots of options and wrinkles you can throw into this formation. Most of which keep Cam upright and clean, offers a power running option, and multiple routes. Including Samuel over the top with Armah adding some additional pass pro for time.

But now that I talk about it we will probably never see it.   But I hope we see more pistol and other formations in the second year of the Norv experiment.

They were in this quite a bit early last year with CJ Anderson in the backfield offset. Formation was called 21 pony, 21 for 21 personnel (2 backs, 1 TE). Anderson actually scored on a screen pass for a touchdown out of this look vs. CIN.

It’s nice to see 40 in that role. He has the requisite athleticism to present multiple threats from that look.

Norv’s offense is a treat to watch. The misdirection direction involved is fantastic:

Think of how many dual or triple threat players we can field on any single play now... They could literally blow the covers off of opponents' defensive playbooks.

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
