Rivera - Coach of the Year?

we have to be good enough to overcome his shortcomings.  we have to be a better team than he is a coach, by a pretty good margin, if we want to win a sb.  yeah he would be hired in 24 hrs because there are a lot of teams that would like to be relevant - because relevancy sells tickets.  he cost us a sb.  he's cost us games.   he's a 2nd tier coach.  that's what he is.  its pretty obvious.  can we overcome that?   we'll see.  didn't we hire a clock person?

This is exactly why most of the great posters on this forum have left.  The topic wasn't written by someone on this forum but Bleacher Report.

80% if not more trash Rivera day in and day out.  Sure he is stubborn to vets and has his own downfalls but I can 100% guarantee he would be hired less than 24 hours after we release him. Than we'll bring in someone with their own defaults and that same 80% will be crying to have him back.

Rivera is one of the best defensive minds in the NFL.  A good coach who had us on the way to back to back winning seasons until Cam got hurt yet most blame Rivera for the lost season.

Well over 1/2 league has true aspirations of winning the superbowl.  With a little luck and minor injuries you might just get.a shot.

I have called for his head because of Shula but I think he's a good head coach and can and will win COY again.

Too bad our fans base is fickle and can't get on board with the idea.

The poster asked about him winning coach of the year, not writing a whole page of why people want him gone!

When Rivera took over the D and Saints couldn’t get a score on us even though our secondary was ass, that was coach of the year moment for sure.

This team is never in the spotlight and whenever we get a big winning streak, it is a shock to the world, even though with Cam we were always in contention.   This is one of those years, expectations are low because of last year’s record and I suppose it would be considered a huge turnaround to national media.

He's got 3 winning seasons to 5 losing seasons and hasn't won a playoff game in 3 straight seasons.

Reality is if we have another poor season in 2019 he'll have a pretty sour looking 3 winning to 6 losing seasons record and Tepper probably wont have the patience to retain him. Even IF cam DOES get injured again. Its on the coaches to put the best QB in there to win games and Rivera didn't do that late in the season when Cam couldn't throw down field.

Even in 2017 we got 3x swept to the Saints and wild card exit, that 11-5 is a bit deceptive in what actually happened that year.

There's a lot riding on the 2019 season for Cam, a bunch of Dline members, Greg, Rivera, Norv, Hurney, almost everyone. Tepper might just blow the entire thing up and start from scratch in 2020 if we end up sucking this year.

What?  People were calling for his head at the end of last season and we haven’t played any games since then. Show me some Ws then we can talk.

Only Panthers fans.

It's pretty well known that Rivera is respected not just in the locker-room but league circles.  Whether you personally think he's a good coach or not, it's no surprise people within the league would consider him underrated.

There’s a huge double-standard on the Huddle when it comes to criticism. The same people who regularly trash the front office like Ron and Hurney under the guise of “hey I’m allowed to criticize the organization, doesn’t make me less of a fan” are the same ones who bust out the pitchforks and verbally assault anyone who even slightly critiques anything about Cam or any other fan favorite. The idolatry of these players and putting them up on a pedestal beyond the reach of criticism is pretty weird.
