Not even mad.  The depth there blows and he’s probably better than any FS we would’ve put on the field

He was one of the best safeties in 2017 for the Chargers, though he was playing behind a stellar pass rush and an even better CB duo.

2018 he was one of the few bright spots on the Cards.

There's no reason to believe he hasn't improved since he played for us. No idea why even with the most cynical mindset you would think he hasn't.

It’s an upgrade even if that’s not saying much. He’s got some skills. Knows the org, should be a smooth transition for him.

most importantly it allows Eric to play his natural SS position.

Boston is much better when he can sit back and read the defense Infront of him. He's a gambler but solid tackler and solid coverage skills. If he can sit back and do that behind a projected much improved pass rush, we can at least expect Grade B Saftey play, maybe B+.

But like you say moving Reid back to SS is the best part about this. He's an average FS, but he's a Mike Mitchell (with better coverage skills, but less speed and headhunting) type SS and Ron loves those.

The subtext of this Boston signing (besides the obvious 'win now' power move of it) is that it solves two problems. Now they can move Gaulden to the nickel - he can play 'big' nickel but in reality he's probably more 'medium' nickel. Two birds with one $3m deal.

Yep.

Other roster moves allow us to keep Crockrell as depth, he can fill in at CB and S adequately, and also allows us to keep Colin Jones as a special teamer while minimizing the time he sees meaningful play (he is okay in spots but should not be a starter. At least he isn't Nakamura out there.)

Meh.

I mean he's better than what we have, but his original stint seems to be a bit overrated by many on here.

At best he was average, and more often than not he was out of position and took poor angles to the ball carrier.

Hopefully he has improved the past two years but last year against the chiefs he was burned and out of position on two consecutive plays for huge gains/TDs.

Granted, Arizona was a dumpster fire, but still... I honestly can't say I'm too optimistic about it.
