Bwhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha - Raleigh can’t even sell out NHL or NCST games

And I see that you're a UNC fan, talking about NC State football. What's your reaction going to be when App walks in to Kenan Memorial Stadium favored by 3-points? With former NC State OC Drinkwitz coaching his 3rd game? I'd imagine there would simply be a prayer to not fall victim to another 70 point beatdown like was suffered against ECU a few years ago.

Did anyone read the article?  He is saying the public money for the stadium would come for hotel revenue tax.

"The economy’s big enough for a revenue tax, a hotel revenue increase that would go a long way to help pay for a new stadium.”

If he buys a soccer team and fill hotels 17 extra days for MLS games,  adds 2-3 new major weekend events thats another 9 days of full hotels.  Not to mention week long events and conventions.  WE could easily see BOA become a place where 90 days a year it is active.    A retractable stadium that duals as a soccer stadium would attract the people that would pay for the stadium.  It would transform the city.

Until they discuss the option to impose a county sales tax or income tax for the stadium people really shouldn't whining.

Tepper wants to turn Charlotte and upstate SC in to 5x what it is right now.  He is just asking the traveling consumer (not the residents) to help pay for the investment he is going to make along side.

PSLs will be a good question.

It means why should Tepper pay full price for a new stadium that is going to economically benefit every man, woman and child in the entire region?  It means why should Tepper pay full price for a new stadium when the precedent is clearly set nationwide for (at the very least) a combination of public/private funding?  I don't see anything confusing about the observation.

You have never struck me as naive in your posts but I can't think of any other description of someone who thinks an NFL owner is going to pay full price for a new stadium.  Tepper has been up front about it since he bought the team actually.

SHOULD.

That is the key word in your first sentence.  What the city council, and Tepper should do, and what they will do are two totally different things.

They will give him money (that he nor the team needs), to "stay" in CLT, which they would have done either way, I won't agree with the practice (just like always), and time will march on.  I will still be a fan, the taxpayers will pay for something that they shouldn't, and hopefully we can finally bring a trophy home to NC.

I'm not mad about the practice, I just don't agree with it.

Except it doesn't benefit the city.

Here's a a few articles on it:

I did a google search also and read those and some other interesting articles.

Looks like Charlotte and NC have some decisions to make.  Because I can guarantee you there will have to be partial public funding support to make Tepper's vision happen.  And it will happen somewhere.

and to add, why look at other situations?  I would love to see an economic impact study on just how  beneficial it has been to have the Panthers and the stadium in the revenue base of the city and state since inception.  Not saying I know  that, just curious.

That would be interesting as I'm sure that the city has benefited from having the Panthers in Charlotte in many ways, but how much so, and how much does that trickle down to the common person?

keep talking that poo. There's a new sheriff in town and there is no way lil App state is going to march in and win. That Drinkwitz guy will be the next Fedora to that program.

Fedora coached at UNC...did he not? App would've wrecked UNC last season. They retained much of their defensive coaching staff, have plenty of experience coming back, Nagursky Watchlist LB and a couple of Thorpe Watchlist guys. Going to be tough sledding for UNC in Week 4 man.

Drinks offense should open up more passing opportunities for Thomas as well so you should see a close repeat performance of what was seen against No. 9 Penn State last season. Except UNC is about 3 tiers below Penn State with McSorley and Miles Sanders.

Good luck wine and cheese crowd fellows. See you at Vineyard Vine following the game.

It would take roughly 15-18% of Tepper’s money to get it done. From what I hear he wants NC to cover 50%. I don’t live there so I don’t have anything to gain or lose but if I was a taxpayer in NC I would be pissed.

would love to see a link to that 50% number.  Sounds wrong.

either way, long way to go on this;

I think I'm going to go around to my neighbors this evening and pitch them on my idea to completely renovate and add onto my house. All I'm asking for them is to cover 50% of the cost. They should be thrilled that I'm offering them this fantastic opportunity to benefit from from the increased property value they'll have simply by living in the shadow of my magnificent spread.
