In regards to giving taxpayer money to a wealthy owner, it is not Tepper's fault he is wealthy.  A new stadium would economically benefit the entire region.  The key is finding the right balance of public/private funding.

Also wonder how Tepper and the Panthers would handle the PSL question(s).

Two years likely to build something like that, so IF they decided to use BOA footprint (I don't think for a second that they would) the team would be playing elsewhere for a while.

It means why should Tepper pay full price for a new stadium that is going to economically benefit every man, woman and child in the entire region?  It means why should Tepper pay full price for a new stadium when the precedent is clearly set nationwide for (at the very least) a combination of public/private funding?  I don't see anything confusing about the observation.

You have never struck me as naive in your posts but I can't think of any other description of someone who thinks an NFL owner is going to pay full price for a new stadium.  Tepper has been up front about it since he bought the team actually.

Raleigh is desperate for a new professional team of some kind and there are some investors in the area, along with new money flowing in, that might make it a reality. Beware Charlotte.

How much revenue does the Panthers franchise drive for Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and the state of NC? A few million dollars of assistance in building the stadium is likely paid off fairly quick. There is an easy method of analysis for this type of public-private partnerships that calculate the payback period. If there was no benefit of the team, the city wouldn't even entertain the idea. However, hosting concerts, international soccer matches (likely why Charlotte missed out on a 2026 FIFA World Cup site), Super Bowl, Corporate Sponsorship, spillover from the Panthers to other industry, etc. etc. You don't turn down a company worth $2.2 B and the economic impact they provide based purely on Elizabeth Warren's platitudes. 

Socialist programs do not pay for themselves. Public-Private partnerships have a benefit to both parties and eventually will pay themselves back to the public trust by way of tax revenue (since everything is taxed which is another conversation). Don't be a sheep.

How in the hell would he expect to sell tickets in Sowkerliner? There’s not enough people in the “upstate” with access to money that can afford to park at the stadium let alone pay for a ticket. 

Not to mention the infrastructure is so awful in SC that I’d be surprised if the ground can support a mega structure like a stadium.

Yeah we will get a new stadium and the public will pay for some of  it. Offering $0 is the only real scenario where the Panthers leave and while the overall chance is remote it is non-zero.

Like others I do wonder how PSL holders will be treated. I doubt I will reup if they demand another PSL fee. I would hope the stadium remains uptown...

No one sells out regular season NHL games except for prime time, weekend games. The Hurricanes were dreadful for ten years because they held onto a GM with outdated practices that did nothing to advance the team. New owner, new GM, new coach, and they make a run at the Conference Finals. Along with that came more Season Ticket sales for the 2019-2020 season, before the 2018-2019 season even ended, than they had the previous 10 years.

If this franchise had 10 consecutive losing seasons, not that dissimilar from the Browns or Bengals, what would attendance look like? People sure as poo wouldn't show up like they do in Cleveland. North Carolina has become a state with a trasncient population in metro areas thanks to the growth of corporate operations in those areas. With that comes fairweather fans and fans of other teams. The Panthers would be lucky to survive as an operation with 10 seasons like the Hurricanes had.

And NC State doesn't count in this argument. No one in the Triangle area is particularly keen on College Football and as it turns out, most NC publications believe App State will actually beat UNC in football this season (lord willing). App's perception as a football school with a first year head coach supercedes UNC's reputation with Hall of Fame coach Mack Brown. Let that sink in. 

However, the NFL has a ton of interest around the Triangle and Triad. Competition with the Redskins seeps in a bit more due to Proximity with the Tidewater Region of Virginia but again, it's about money. You have someone willing to throw down around one billion dollars to build a state of the art MLS facility. Who's to say Tepper doesn't want a part of that? Combine the two ventures and your payback period should decrease while increasing odds of receiving public funding for the project.

It's unlikely to ever happen, but if Charlotte doesn't want the team, someone else will.
