He looked a bit shaky at Fan Fest.

Yeah he looked really bad last night.  Some throws weren’t even close.  Maybe it was jitters being back in at BOA with a decent crowd.  Either way, Allen certainly outplayed him last night.

I still like Allen. I will say this, he’s struggled with consistency during camp. Week 17 was an impressive game, no matter how you slice it, for Allen. He torched their starting defense, and made some big time NFL throws.

Grier still has some nervous tendencies in the pocket. Just my observation through camp, but he has that David Carr-like tendency to bail on his progressions a tad early and abandon the pocket. It’s subtle, but I’ve noticed it.

The preseason games will make a big difference in terms of evaluating these guys. Practice is just not going to give you the entire perspective you need. I know we all like to read into every little thing that goes on right now, because people need to sell content.

I’m just of the mindset that there’s not a whole lot you can read into until you see some live game action.

David Carr had "battered QB syndrome." If Grier runs THAT scared, his career is sunk.

Let's just hope it is jitters.

David Carr is pretty much the absolute last name any Panthers fan wants to hear when describing watching a QB we recently drafted practice, and at fan fest no less.

It's a bit baffling that a 3rd string rookie QB seemingly receives more attention from the high ups here on the huddle versus the Panthers franchise QB and former unanimous MVP displaying ever improving passing ability paired with a distinct improving chemistry with playmakers like Samuel and Moore.

I’m not suggesting he’s David Carr. He’s just shown that early bail tendency at times.

Carr was a traumatized mess by time 2007 rolled around. I expect better from Grier, but we’ll see.

David Carr...

It took David Carr 5 seasons to get to the point where he had absolutely NO trust in his offensive line to keep him from getting destroyed! A prime example of what could have happened to Cam had he not been the most physically gifted QB the NFL has ever seen, particularly in terms of size and strength. Some of the lines this team put him behind were on the level of the ones that ruined David Carr.

So assuming Grier pans out the Panthers are in a win-win-win situation.

Win 1: If Cam misses a short (emphasis on short) period of time this year, we have a competent backup that can at least not lose us the game

Win 2: We have a backup locked into a rookie deal for four years

Win 3: At the end of his deal, we have a legit trade piece OR a QB going forward if god forbid something happens to Cam's health/contract situation

Gotta say my initial reaction to the pick was fug why did we use a third rounder on a QB, but that immediately changes if Grier ends up being a legit QB. There is no more valuable asset in the NFL

He threw five passes all night and completed three.

Both of them were throwing against a collapsing pocket. Allen’s two best throws were on plays that absolutely would’ve been sacks were they live in-game. He held onto the ball for five seconds before rolling out and hitting his man.

How hard are you rooting for him to suck?

There’s one thread about Grier. One. How is that seemingly receiving more attention? All we talk about is Cam’s improvement and his health.

Also — interested to see how people react when Grier has good days and bad. The biggest homers for Cam, myself included, seemingly had to come to his rescue after almost every practice in 2011. Let’s hope that remembering that, you won’t stoop to that level with Grier.

Where do you see any words in my post about how he sucks?

Actually I've supported him as a Panther from the jump including on draft night when people were blowing their stacks. I was one of a select few actually supporting the pick because it isn't his fault we drafted him.

If you want to take a shot, get your facts straight.

My observations come from an entire week of watching him at camp. And I’m not cheering for anybody to suck. I can promise you that.

Just for the record, I expected him to struggle with these elements at first. He’s a third round draft pick—a rookie learning one of the hardest positions in sports. Norv’s offense isn’t easy to master. There are a lot of moving parts on each snap.

I still think he could be a very productive NFL QB. But nothing he does so far jumps out at me. He’s got some things to work on, and he’s got time to do it.

If the roles were reversed you can bet your bottom dollar the years long established anti-Cam posters who have been suspiciously very quiet the last week would be here chirping the loudest pushing for Grier.

As it is no one that I can see has shown up to gloat or anything of the sort about Grier looking less than ideal at fan fest like we know some fans would do if Cam missed passes. We've seen it every damn preseason. Do I need to dig up gameday threads?

@Carl Spackler wobble on back in here like Cotton Hill, I'm not done with you.
