Could This be the Next Panthers' GM?

Not a fan of Colbert. He had some real hits in the draft, much like Hurney.... but his FA acquisitions were mainly miss rather than hit. Also, his blemishes were well hidden by his draft picks.  He has been at the helm there for a long time, and constantly put together a good run. However, I just dont see a huge difference from going Hurney to Colbert.

Also, Colbert didn't take locker room personalities into account when making his decisions. Steelers have had a lot of good talent leave due to that locker room cancer. He has taken a lot of risks, and not many paid off.

So you can't compare a consistent winning GM with a guy who hasn't won a playoff game since the 2000s.

Since Colbert took over either as Director of football operations, or as GM in 2000, they have had 1 losing season out of 19.

I would welcome him here in Carolina....only drawback to me is age.

Agree.  Maybe hire him in some sort of adviser role.  Even if Marty continues doing well, it would be helpful to have someone with his experience and history of winning to add his perspective on things.

Compared to 5 losing seasons in a row. Yep. This isn’t debatable. At all.

You don’t pass up proven,  Long-term winning GMs for ones that no other team in the NFL would even interview for a job.

I could be wrong but the unspoken assumption here is that if we are in the market for a new GM in the next year or two that Tepper's familiarity with Colbert would give him an edge.

The more I learn about our new owner the more I realize that would not be the case.

Tepper doesn’t seem to be the type to accept anything other than winning. Lots of peoples jobs are on the line this year, including Cam. Let’s hope Cam balls out and is healthy. If not, Tepper will prob clean house in the off-season.
