Saints just released WR Cam Meredith...he just couldn't overcome the injury the Bears thought he had when they released him. Saints gambled and lost.

Now Thomas has even more leverage.

LMAO, what? Meredith had a whole 9 catches last year. NINE. Which ranked him 11th on the team behind 5 other WR's, 3 TE's, and 2 RB's. How does cutting the 6th WR give Thomas more leverage?

Austin Carr (who was undrafted) also had 9 catches but more TD's than Meredith last year. If we cut Carr instead of Meredith, would you still consider that as "leverage for Thomas"?

Whenever the Brees bubble hits they're gonna be SOL. I'll love to them try to sign him, Kamara and Lattimore while dealing with Brees back-ended contract.

Kamara is signed through 2020 and Lattimore is signed through 2021 (with his 5th year option). Kamara will likely be extended next offseason (a year early, just like Thomas).

Seems like I read somewhere a few days ago they were really close on a deal. Haven't seen any updates recently though.

They are. Soon.

Michael Thomas is signed through this year. What makes you think these guys won't try to get theirs?

Maybe it is just the way it seems but it feels like more rookies are forcing the issue before their last year

They most definitely are. I think the NFL (rightfully so) isn’t too happy that they agreed to this CBA, yet the players aren’t following on their end.

The Vet players agreed to this CBA.  Rookie players coming into this league had this rookie wage pay scale forced on them and rightfully so aren't happy with the limited earnings while outperforming vets.

Having talent to pay is a better problem to have than not having talent to pay.

What big contracts do the Panthers have coming up?

Next year? Eh....depends on what you consider "big." Probably none, although McCoy, Williams, Thompson or Bradberry could all command significant money. Nothing anywhere near the cap % that Thomas or Brees would command. We are probably two seasons from that.

The reason it was agreed to is that rookie salaries at the time were rarely justified by their performance on the field.  An unknown rookie does not deserve to get paid as much as a vet who is a known quantity.  They should look into shortening the rookie contracts to three years though.  By that time, both sides know what they have.

Cam's coming up soon and Kuechly soon thereafter. CMC will get big money, and we'll have to think if we want to extend Shaq Thompson and James Bradberry within the next year. Don't think we'll be able to or want to keep everyone.
