Many of those who have fallen behind the idea of starting Matt Moore would also likely tell you that they're looking forward to John Fox being replaced just as much (or more) as they are to Delhomme being benched.

Something to consider in all this, though...

Suppose that Matt Moore actually does come in and play well, and the team miraculously goes on to have a successful season (perhaps even make the playoffs)?

Unlikely as it may sound, if this were to happen...

Moore could actually save John Fox's job :eek:

Now, bear in mind that nothing I've said here would fall in with anyone's realistic expectations at this point. It's not definite that Fox will bench Jake, or that if he does Moore will be the one to get the start.

Even assuming he does, the notion that he could prove to be a Bradyesque savior is a fantasy with little root in reality. Truthfully, most folks would be happy if he were just competent to above average.

But could it happen? :sosp:

edit: yeah, that sounded stupid. but what im saying is that moore taking us to the playoffs would say that fox is actually a pretty good coach, and delhomme is just that terrible.

all i want is for the panthers to win consistently.

i don't think fox is able to make that happen but if he were able to turn things around for good and get us in the playoffs i might have a change of heart and sig.

what you are describing is very unrealistic but i won't deny that it would make me happy to be winning again.

still i think the best thing for the franchise is to change the HC(maybe OC as well), QB, and GM.

That idea has crossed my mind in the past few days, yes, but if that's the case then we don't need to waste one of our precious remaining draft picks on a QB when Matt Moore is the franchise savior. We would be making matt moore shirts with jesus halos in that case.

my worst fear is that after all of this crap, hurney and fox don't do a damn thing about the QB situation next year and we are forced to live with Jake Delhomme until he dies from being kicked in the head by one of his horses.

Winning cures everything. Would Matt Moore leap the Panthers past the Falcons and Saints in the NFC South this year? Extremely unlikely.

Would Matt Moore return the Panthers to respectability? Possibly.

Competent to above average sounds pretty good at this point.

Yep, nightmare scenario alright: Finding our quarterback of the future that somehow plays miraculously enough to take a 2-4 team with one of the toughest schedules in the league over the rest of the way into the playoffs. I'm practically weeping at the thought of how horrible that sounds.

I think you don't really get what FireFoxers want. We want, more than ANYTHING, for this team to get to the playoffs and win a Super Bowl. We just believe that John Fox, Marty Hurney, and Jake Delhomme are the biggest obstacles to that goal.

If Matt Moore can play herculean enough to overcome this crappy coaching, I don't care who's coaching. Let's not forget that even a pathetic coach like Barry Switzer once won a Super Bowl because of how talented his players were.

If Moore had the ability to lead our team he would have been inserted weeks ago. Maybe the int's could just be a given in Fox's mind but the leadership can't be instilled with Moore or Feeley?

It wouldn't be the first time Fox stuck with a vet over a youngster longer than he should have.

This goes back to the whole "praying for the best or hoping for the worst" quandary.

As an aside, I'd have no problem with keeping Delhomme as a backup/mentor (with a reworked contract, of course).

oh my thoughts exactly. no better person to teach you the offense than the guy that's been running it for the past three years. Delhomme's only problem is his execution, his leadership is something I have never questioned. He could be a great back-up for us. If our starter went down I'd have confidence in jake taking over the reigns for the remainder of a game, I just don't want him under center from the start of it.

I want the Panthers to win every week, thats why I think the change should be made. If we win the next 10 games with Moore, then Fox is a genius! I think he's gone if the Panthers miss the playoffs. Besides anyone who wants his team to lose, so the coach can be replaced, is not a true fan.

I don't care about Fox, If Moore plays and we win thats all that matters.

I'm having a hard time buying that Delhomme over Moore is our best chance to win, Nobody in the NFL is playing the quarterback position worse then Jake Delhomme this year.

It's mind boggling to think that Fox believes that Moore would do worse, he's essentially saying that the Panthers have the 3 worst QB's in the NFL.

I just can't buy that, Even if its just for a game Jake needs to go to the bench, & someone else needs to get an opportunity. Keeping Jake as the starter isn't fair to the rest of the team.

      I don't think a month goes by that I don't stop for a second and feel hatred for Fitt. Brought trashed QBs here, kept a bad roster 24/7, passed on 2 first round picks and a second round pick for Burns, traded a generational RB, and spent the farm on a runty QB who has bad mechanics and a noodle arm. And I'm not even listing everything he screwed up. And I said he was screwing up at the time, not hindsight 20/20. He was AWFUL. Now look what we have to show for it. A bottom 3 team and a QB who only looks good against teams that are somehow worse than us. I could walk away from this franchise for the next two seasons and I wouldn't miss anything notable or worthwhile. We had Fitt lovers on this board praising him, but I'm not going to call those fans out. It's water under the bridge now. It's over. Aim for a turnaround 2026 once the roster is rebuilt.

      I don't think he was too small. He was about 220 and they played him there alot his rookie year when he was 2nd place DROY. Maybe another 10 pounds would have helped, but not absolutely necessary.
