cleveland- they will move on from quinn and anderson

Okay...if we work off this list:

Minnesota

Jacksonville

St. Louis

49ers

Seattle

Arizona

Cleveland

Carolina

And all of those teams draft a QB (unlikely, but let's just pretend), and since they all draft before us...which college QB is the 8th best? Assuming we can't get into the 1st Round. Looks bad.

We must get back into the 1st.

Patrick Ramsey just got a tryout with the Bills. He was a guy I'd rather have had than A J Feeley. He's not a "QB of the future" option though.

I've seen a fair amount of Notre Dame football this year and like a lot of what I see in Jimmy Claussen. Fox still being head coach would serve to make that particular choice more likely (per his friendship with Charlie Weis).

Also...let's take a look at where every current starter was drafted:

Brady - 6th

Sanchez - 1st

Pennington/Henne - 1st/2nd

Edwards/Fitzpatrick - 3rd/7th..and they suck

Manning - 1st

Collins/Young - 1st/1st

Schaub - 3rd

Garrard - 4th

Roethlisberger - 1st

Palmer - 1st

Flacco - 1st

Quinn/Anderson - 1st/6th...and Anderson sucks

Russell - 1st

Orton - 4th

Rivers - 1st

Cassell - 7th

Manning - 1st

McNabb - 1st

Campbell - 1st

Romo - Undrafted

Favre - 2nd

Rodgers - 1st

Cutler - 1st

Stafford/Culpepper - 1st/1st

Delhomme - Undrafted

Freeman - 1st

Brees - 2nd

Ryan - 1st

Hasselbeck - 6th

Bulger - 6th

Smith/Hill - 1st/Undrafted

Warner - Undrafted

---------

Now, let's look at the past nine Super Bowl winning QBs...

Actually seven (not including Tampa or Baltimore)

Roethlisberger - 1st

Eli Manning - 1st

Peyton Manning - 1st

Roethlisberger

Brady - 6th

Brady

Brady

Warner - UD

We can gamble going for a QB in the 2nd, but we really need to get in before the other teams that also may be looking to draft a QB. But you never know, this may be Moore's team next season, which if that's so we need to draft a WR.

The thing that always has to be remembered when talking about first rounders is the high failure rate. Yes, there are the Mannings and the Ryans and such, but for every one of them there's a Tim Couch or a Ryan Leaf.

When they're good, they're great. When they're bad, they can set your franchise back for years.

For the record, I do favor using high picks on QBs. But you have to do your homework first. The stakes are high and the risks are huge.

Troy Smith is all that matters, he can be our QB of the future, provided he doesn't resign with Baltimore first.

Another one of my Sleepers from a couple a seasons ago. I thought he was a little of a project coming out of the draft but I want you to watch this video of him in the preseason. Look how perfectly he would fit into our passing game. He also brings mobility (something that is underrated in QB IMHO). Especially watch that awesome pocket awareness and his great arm on the run in that play to Yamon Figurs (another guy we should have picked up to help our ST).
