I hope he stays a Panther for life, but I think the Broncos will do everything in their power to sign him if he's ever on the open market.

Very tough to get in HOF as a RB. You need the numbers and you need a long career at a very bruising position. It’s just way too early to tell for him but if he can keep up his receiving, all purpose yards like he had last year for his career, he has a good chance.

If he first gets 1000 yards receiving and passing and then repeats it for 3-4 years and stays very productive for another 6 years after that, then he has a great chance. It takes longevity and doing things others can't to be assured a spot. He has to be the best back of his time to get in. Otherwise there are plenty of choices like Kamara, Gurley, Barkeley   etc. just counting backs who are his contemporaries.

Repeats it 3-4 times??  

Dear God man.  Faulk and Craig only did it 1 time each.  

If he gets the 1k/1k club he's not auto in but it sets him apart for sure.

Jumping the gun by about 4-5 years. Not even Cam and Luke are HoF locks right now, 8 and 7 years into their careers... though they are on good pace.

As a RB you need at least 10 years of consistent production to be HoF worthy unless you were just an unbelievable talent like Gayle Sayers,  Earl Campbell, or Terrell Davis or something. RB HoFers are more about overall rush yards and career longevity than anything else. Breaking that 10,000 rushing yards barrier is one of the main things he needs to do IMO, there's only 31 players in the entirety of NFL history that have done it and its an elite club. 

So for Christian had 2 season. Rookie season was pretty good but middling stats-wise. 2nd year was very good.

Just hope he continues to stay healthy, that's probably the most important thing. Talent is there.

That's a decent ways in the future still. CMC is signed through 2020 and theres a 5th year option for 2021 since he was a 1st rounder. Hard to say what the state of the Panthers will be after 2021. Lot of things can happen between now and then. 

Wouldn't be too surprised to see that happen though. Its fairly rare for RBs to stay on one team their entire career unless they're willing to just retire somewhat early.

I'd be interested to see if CMC transitions to a slot WR at the tail end of his career in order prolong it. 

That'd be dope, and he certainly has the skills to do it.

Sooo many players, sooo few spots.

And this is soooo early in his career. I've been talking him up since before he was drafted and am a huge fan of what he has done. Let's not measure for that coat yet, though. He's going to need to survive for another seven years or so in this league with no drop off and even some continued growth.

Sticking with the same team won't hurt either, but let's just say the kid is at least marching down the right path at this point.

And it is true, he will have to be acknowledged as one of the best, if not THE best of his time to make it in there, especially considering the QB/WR slant of the game right now. He has some stout competition right now, but that stable full of great RBs will naturally thin down as the years progress. We've already seen some hits to the potential class like Cook and Gurley suffering injuries, and Hunt's legal debacle. 

Give it time, but keep cheering.

Everything has to be sensationalized these days.

 

He is entering year 3 at an absurdly physically demanding position on the field.  He will need 10 years of consistent production and more than 10,000 yards and probably a SB title in there to even be considered IMO.

Let's just enjoy what we have for a while before this is a topic.

Everyone saying "it's too early to tell, too early to tell".  While that's a 100% true statement, the segment on GMF was "What young player do you predict will be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame some day?"  So just the nature of the question in general is an impossible one to answer with injuries and the multitude of other variables in play.  They have to try and answer the question all the same though.  CMC seems very serious in taking care of his body so I hope he does make it and is around for 10 more years!

That would be interesting. 30 is old for a RB but good slot receivers often play several more years.

What might be more likely is him simply evolving into more and more of a receiving RB as he ages, similar to the old "3rd down back". I mean, he's already basically a RB/slot WR hybrid considering how often we split him out.

What infuriating about that is just how little we used CJ last season to take advantage of CMC's absurd versatility.  Sometimes we are just a dumb team....hell....seemingly most times.

Agreed with both posts.  At 30 (or whenever he's "done" at RB), he could become a better version of a Darren Sproles type guy and kill it. With the league possibly evolving to more spread, if not college style systems in the future, CMC is the prototype RB/WR to lead the charge.
