Don’t live in NC and have only been following the Hornets for a couple years but Jordan really makes me ask WTF???

As a player this guy would have never been ok with mediocrity, he demanded excellence. But as an owner he acts like battling for an 8th seed every year is acceptable. I don’t get it.

With the Dumpster fire going on now which was/is the Worst

Jerry was stingy and didn't want to invest much leading to the CBA it was reported and moves such as trading a Future 1st for Everrett Brown, the eventual 33rd pick for Jimmy Clausen etc etc crippled this organization and plunged them to the worst in football.

The Hornets now.  Just lowballed the best player in franchise history.  Turned down a trade for him last year for what would have been the #8 overal pick and Marvin Williams (big contract off the books).  The owner is also is stingy and refuses to spend the money.  The Hornets are 1 of 2 organizations to Never spend a dime of Luxery Tax.

Pay the luxury tax for a team that isn't getting beyond the first round of the playoffs. Batum played well, got paid, fell off. That is what caused this Kemba fiasco. Without the Batum issues, the Hornets would've been in position to put themselves in the Top 4 of the East. That isn't Jordan's fault last I checked.

Dicking around with Kemba on a max contract with a team that won't compete for the Conference Finals until Kemba is between 30 and 35 is a recipe for further deterioration of the Hornets. Trade Kemba, get Rozier who has played extremely well in all but one spot start, build around these young wing players and wait out the Batum contract.

It's not a dumpster fire so much as it is that no one wants to use logic.

He didn't resign Kemba because Kemba is an 8-Seed player. He is an All-Star, not a Superstar. You don't hand out a max contract worth north of $200 mm to an All-Star. You also don't pay luxury tax for at least 2 seasons on a team that won't crack the top four of the Eastern Conference.

Rozier has played well in his starts and led the Celtics to a 7-Game series against a Lebron James led Cavaliers squad.

I'm more upset that Lamb wasn't resigned honestly. Rozier at the one with Bacon at the two and Lamb coming off the bench would be a decent group.

MJ bought that a team that was close to folding, only 10 years ago. Since then:

Acquired a TV deal (no one in the Carolinas could watch the Bobcats because of Bob Johnson's massive failure)
Changed the name back to the Hornets
Repaired relationships with the community
Ok'd a full tank job just after he bought the team (The Bobcats were the original Sixers)
When the Hornets got 48 wins and tied for 3rd in the east in 2016, he allowed the GM to pay the players to try to build on that

If anything, MJ's biggest mistake was hiring Rich Cho who was a god awful drafter.

Plus, we don't have this thread if Charlotte has better lottery luck.

Just like New Orleans would be considered the worst franchise in sports if they don't pull horseshoes out of their ass and win the 2 most important lotteries since 2003.

My issue isn't that Kemba wasn't resigned.  That was the right call.  But things leading up to it were the wrong call.

My issue is that we could have actually got something for him, other than "the right to Rozier".  Especially if we apparently had no motivation to actually resign Kemba.

Now throw in that Kaminsky just walked (once again, that in itself wasnt the issue), but now factor in the boatload of picks that were once offered for that pick.

And yeah, I know hindsight is 20/20.  But the trade offers for both Kemba and Kaminsky's pick should have been seen as no brainers.

As it is, we also had to send a 2020 2nd round pick to Boston for Rozier.
