How many qb’s in the history of the NFL had great rookie seasons then crapped their pants?

Yes, he looks like a first ballot HOFer compared to their last two decades of qb’s but that doesn’t mean he’s going to be good

Cool. So just because Vince Young sucked = Baker will too

sick logic bro

It’s a really weak argument I keep hearing on here

A player 5-10 years ago fizzled out so that means every player at the same position will too ?

Thats whack.

Nothing so far indicates B.Mayfield is on the same path. Now until he has a down season, keeping beating that same tired drum though

same people probably said the same about Cam...just hating for no reason

Nor Mayfield...

The Browns, at their best really reflect their blue collar, down to earth fanbase.

To be honest, there may not be a bigger "blue collar" QB to go no. 1 ever.

Two time walk on.

Had 4 scholarship offers out of high school.  Rice, New Mexico, Washington State, and FLA Atlantic.

He is loud, outspoken, brazen, etc....but he is a hard worker...much like those fans.

Could be that, or he really wants to stay in the South.  Doesn't want to live in Ohio.  Doesn't want what looks to be a circus of a locker room.

Either way, I think that the Browns and the Panthers both make the playoffs this year, and I could argue that the Browns have an easier path than we do.

I think that McCoy wants success now and Cleveland has shown nothing to prove they will win. They have a new coach, 2nd year QB and lots of new parts. McCoy saw stability with us and a bunch of hungry vets playing for a Lombardi.  But I understand the concern about Cleveland. My daughter lives there and I visit her often. Besides the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it is underwhelming at best and the weather is awful.  Given he signed a 1 year deal he knew we have a better chance to win it all versus Cleveland who haven't proves they can make the playoffs let alone beat New England and win it all

They call it a "sophomore slump" for a reason.  Mayfield may or may not fall into it, but defensive coordinators are not stupid people and given enough film, they will find weaknesses and tendencies to exploit.  I would not be surprised at all to have him hit by that, and then recover and get on with his career.

According to Cowboys fans, Dak Prescott went from "all-universe" to just being a temporary replacement for Romo during and after his second year, to being a top-tier QB again after the third.  He wasn't as good as they spouted after his first year as a starter, nor as bad as they made him out after his second.  He learned and adapted, and if it happens to Mayfield, I think he will, too.

But, they are the Browns.  There is something in the soil that is toxic to young QBs, it seems.

I can't be upset with a fanbase that has been starved of success for years. Every team is 0-0 right now and is excited for the future. Cleveland made great moves this offseason and have plenty of reasons to be excited.

As far as Baker goes, he shares some similarities with Cam. Both are outspoken and want to win desperately. They do things their way and won't apologize for it. Gotta respect it.

I remember them being the focus of that “the sun will come out tomorrow” commerical back during the super bowl in 2003 saying every NFL team, even the poo Browns, were back to 0-0 the next day and here we are in 2019 with the same dance and song lol

That’s because the issue isn’t talent and players, both franchises have had great players and talent and everyone knows it

The issue is deeper but the boss isn’t going to fire themselves so until that culture changes they’ll continue the spiral

its sad really, a competent FO could really do something with the browns roster

I believe that companies and organizations do really start with the top down and the personnel mirror the owners, CEOs etc.

often when you experience employees of an airline for example— they don’t care, rude, who cares, it’s your problem etc—- versus another airline where the employees seem to make everything involving your experience their priority— that all started with the top. (My 2 examples are the old US Air and British Airways in that order— Suck versus customer oriented experience)

football teams are the same. Get an owner that puts winning as his or her priority,.. or filling seats with stars as the priority,... being affable,.. or results oriented,..obviously being able to make good decisions, whether they are solutions minded or problem minded.

the teams that are perpetual winners have all of those best attributes towards winning and winning culture from the top— and the opposite is true.

Honestly he can say that, but you know damn well it's b/c we play tampa twice a year. if he was a steeler, he would have chosen cleveland.

He could have chosen Baltimore as well if it was all about going up against a division rival using your scenario. Remember Cleveland offered the least money. Baltimore offered the most guaranteed money.
